My dad collected military vehicles when I was growing up, and now I am too! My stable has only one truck right now, but maybe someday I'll get more!
I am an engineer who works in power utility energy conservation and load management. However, my engineering background includes extensive training in CAD. I also own a FDM 3D printer.
I love nerding out on anything military vehicle-related, mechanical stuff, and sci-fi (favorites being BattleTech, Star Wars, and Keith Laumer's BOLO series). I also believe in sharing knowledge with others so that we all learn from each other!
My tips for working with the DMV for registering your former military truck:
Don't tell the clerk it's military anything. It might freak them out.
Answer only the questions asked. "Yes" or "No" are your best answers if you're able to use them.
Provide only the paperwork required.
Be nice and patient at the DMV. The clerks are just like you and want to be treated like you want to be treated.
If you're having trouble at one DMV office, try another one if you can. At least where I live in NY rural DMV locations are used to registering stuff considered weird by city folk since many farmers use old trucks, including former military ones, that might be oddly heavy or have VINs less than 17 digits.

Want to learn about CADding with Fusion 360? I have some videos here that might help.
