Terminus M1009

They give me a warranty. i have had them fix things for free in the past that were not their fault. But they did it because they said it should have lasted longer. The best warranty I can ask for is one I never have to use. And in the 20+ years i have been using this re-builder I have had very little or no issues. After seeing how starters and alternators are re-built professionally. I am 100% convinced there is more to it then putting a few replaenment parts in the starter or alternator. $130. is money well spent when you see how in depth the proper rebuilding process is. The tools in the shop they work out of cost several 100 thousand dollars. Have a great day. I gave the starter a new paint job. A custom look if you will.

Today I was able to get the oil pan and starter back on Terminus M1009. Everything went well. The transmission cooler lines are still the worst part of the whole job. I needed to tap the threads on the dipstick/manifold stud. After I ran it and checked for leaks and warmed it up real good. I decided it was time to change all the hoses. This still has the GM hoses on it. The last picture shows some sort of wear mark in the lower hose. that would have surely ruined a good day of wheeling. This is a great running M1009 and only needs body work to make it a really good daily driver for someone else. Until then it has Rausch Creek as it's future. Have a great day.

Check out the nice starter. I have tons of old paint and want to use it. It cost a lot to dispose of so I have been painting everything and putting some artistic thought into it. I was thinking of painting Terminus M1009 tiger striped so I tried it out on the starter. Massive fail but oh well no harm no foul. It is a rebuilt starter and it will work the same no matter what color it is.Put a tiger in your tank comes to mind. Have a nice day.

Hey Shenkmen they don't do the custom paint. LOL. I do that as an option. They are not open Sundays. But I send them a lot of work and they are 100% honest hard working guys. They sell gauges and do electrical repairs and installations also. good luck. I hope that is helpful.

I don't count that as a "massive fail". I think it could work great:

- Maybe get a box of frosted flakes cereal to use as a model!

Tonight I replaced all of the original hoses that were on the Terminus M1009. I am holding the bypass hose. It is that hard and brittle it crumbles in your hands when squeezed. Total cost of all the replacement hoses was about $25. and about an hours time. I used 2 steel P clips and secured the heater hoses in place to the rear battery tray. I also used a few P clips to secure the overflow hose to the fan shroud. The plastic one was long gone. My next project is to drop the front suspension/sway bar out and replace all the rubber bushings with Energy Suspension bushings. I also scored another set of quad shock brackets. Who know if the weather stays nice I may break out the pressure washer and wash Terminus M1009 thru and thru. I will need top do that before I do a complete paint job. I am still at the drawing table of the color and design. But something low budget and unique is what I have in mind. I have many different colors. I wish I could tape it up and park it in the city near the railroad tracks and have a ghetto paint job done on it. With out the windows smashed out of it. I see the trains every day. There is a lot of wasted talent out there.

That is a really very cool idea; no kidding.

If only there were a way to make it happen without mayhem:

- Like send out "invitations" (word would circulate on the street), and then host the "Paint-In" at a police precinct parking lot!

Here in D.C., every now and then you see a truck in town from some kind of vendor in New York City (like from Brooklyn, or the Bronx); and I'l tell you what, some of them are TRUE works of art (I kid you not). having been hit up by graffiti folks up that way. I'm sure the truck owners don't appreciate it (it's uninvited), but the work is really spectacular sometimes. Kind of funny.

There are actually regular artist that do that kind of work. I've seen some beautiful stuff that is basically graffiti but was actually done legally. You will just have to check around in your area and find somebody

No they will want big $$$ and call it the Arts. I just wanted a random graffiti paint job without the windows being painted and smashed out. I don't mind paying. But not a regular artist. Maybe a starving artist looking for work. Know any? Or should I just park it down in Philadelphia at the rail yard and hope for the best. I could always remove all the glass and reinstall it after the painting is complete. My luck they would push it on the tracks and a train would hit it. You know I am joking. I will get to it. Tonight I was feeling tired and only wanted to get a small goal done. Well that was 2 easy. I removed the front sway bar. I have new Energy Suspension bushings to install. So being that I removed that to quickly I decided to do some thing else.These 2 pieces of scrap steel were welded up to the front cross member. I torched them off in a few minutes. The welding was poor and them pieces just bothered me that they were there. I think it is an OCD thing I have. They are gone and I am.
Into the scrap with these pieces. No more Rausch Rides for them. I think that is why I was stuck in the water they got caught on something.

That scrap steel looks like it was "welded" on by Frankenstein's Monster (if you want to call that "welding").

Yes I put a vise grip on it and pushed up rel hard and it broke loose. I used the torch to clean the cross member real good of the weld boogers that were every where. I will grind it smooth and coat it. Why ? Because I can and it is part of OCD to do that type of thing. Remember it is my truck. I do everything the right way or don't even bother doing it.

I burned out the front spring bushing sleeves. I installed Energy Suspension spring bushings in the front spring eyes. New bolts and a little prying and done. Tomorrow I will be changing the front spring shackle bushings. They are metal on metal on the frame side. I hope it comes apart easier then the front. With out a cutting torch you would be up the creek. No pictures today. I will post pictures tomorrow. Have a great day.

Today the projects were rained out. I used the time to sand the sway bar , sway bar clamps, shackle plates and paint them. I used an assortment of colors. I received the incorrect sway bar bushings. I ordered rear sway bar bushings in error. No worries I will just use the extra time to clean my shop and get ready for another big project. HMMWV project is next. Now in lieu of tearing them apart I must do repairs to one. Torching and cutting them as scrap was easier. Are the TM for the M998 here on this site somewhere? I must change the 6.2 engine in one. Without using a torch and sawsall this time. It looks about the same as a CUCV. Anyone have any tips/pointers?

I am changing all the spring bushings and sway bar bushings on Terminus M1009. I am sure if you never changed yours and they are the original ones they need changed. This is a great project to do in one day per axle. Very dirty and when you are done it will make a world of difference with new shocks installed. I needed a torch to heat the rubbers and get the old bushings out. Not hot enough to effect the springs just messy enough to turn your face and hands black and gummy with rubber. Nothing that a little Acetone won't clean up. See how worn the bushings are. the springs are riding steel to steel.

After I removed everything I sanded and painted all the parts I removed. Why not that is the best part about replacing things. Making it look nice and it shows pride in workmanship. Not just reassemble rusty ugly parts. Anyone can do that. I cheated and used a torch. the bolts go against the header pipe and I just torch them off and install them from the outside of the frame. The shackle plates were cleaned sand blasted and painted also. Have a great day. Only problem now is I do not have all of the bushings. All is well remain calm. They are on the way.
