New to the site but have a few 91' Hmmwvs. I noticed a few drops of oil on the inside of my passenger front wheel. The hub does not seem to be leaking anywhere on the backside or drain/fill plugs. Any idea what is leaking on the hub or should I just service the entire hub including gears? Thanks in advance for any advise.

The preload on the spindle bearings are measured with a torque wrench, to get the torque correct IMHO you must remove the half shaft so you may as well replace the upper seal at that time, you will also be able to inspect the lower bearings and can "feel" how the upper bearings are if you remove the lower gear and spin the upper gear, of course use a new "washer, key" and make sure you have the spindle nut that allows two key tabs to be in place.

Looks like the last person used a little too much pookie on that inspection plate, a sign of poor workmanship
