It’s been a wild week in Mississippi. We had a winter wonderland for a few days. Everything was white and fun. We drug the kid around behind the side by side and had some fun sliding down hills. No snow, just ice for the most part.

It all took a turn for the worst Wednesday. It was below freezing and it started to rain. It all stuck to the trees and froze. Within a few hours trees started snapping and power went out.

I fired up the 802 and threw the power disconnect and away we went. The 802 did great. It ran for 85 hours plus or minus. The only brakes were to check the oil and check it over. It performed flawlessly.

I to the trailer mounted 003 to my brother in law who had no plan for such an event. It kept him in power for a few days. About 4 hours before their power returned it just quit. I retrieved it several hours ago. It’s dead. It looks like the 24 volt side has issues. It want say a word when you try to start it. I am thinking a dead cell or something battery related. The current batteries are ancient and should have been replaced long ago.

I will start diagnostics tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks again to the group for all the help in the past.

Interesting that it died while it was running, correct? Just a weak battery should not have caused a shut-down so long as the DC charging system is still working correctly. Let us know what you find once you start poking around with it.
I am getting that information from my sister in law who was inside when I happened. I can’t even consider that as credible info. There is no telling what really happened. I am going to have to start troubleshooting from scratch. That 003 has been rock solid for the last 100 hours. I am going to go out in a limb and say there was some operator error involved.

I should have a little time tomorrow to do some poking around on the set.

Most likely true. No telling what really happened.
As you said, starting from "scratch" on your troubleshooting will get you to the answer faster than "i heard something".

Turns out she was half right. It probably did just quit. I pulled it in the garage for a once over and the main DC breaker was thrown. A quick once over and I didn’t see anything that would cause this issue.

I have had this issue once before and it was a fuel pump. I started pulling power to each of them one at a time, Low and behold the auxiliary pump was the issue. I bypassed the capacitor and it fired right up.

All is well that ends well. Going to order a new set of batteries. These are weak and have served well for over 7 years according to the labels.

Both sets will be getting oil and filters and a good once over this weekend.

Wow! That is pretty good service. 7 years out of a set of batteries is impressive.
As it turns out, it makes a really good story!

If you are about to do a PM on this 003, I think you should consider upgrading the set: https://steelsoldiers.com/threads/m...a-drop-in-spin-on-fuel-filter-adapter.201506/
