I’ve been playing around with these MEP generators for a few years now. Getting more acquainted with them each time I work on them. I recently picked up an MEP-803A 10kw unit with a bad oil leak from the rear main area. I ordered the seal and tackled that task yesterday. Not too bad at all, but I did use my overhead Crain in the shop to pull the engine and generator head as a unit. I simply love the simplicity of these machines. But, like many others I’m sure, I’ve come to dislike the 10-32 shoulder head fasteners with the nuts on the back where they’re almost impossible to get to. I went to the local nut and bolt store and bought the tool to install riv-nuts. I used up a bag of 50 very quickly. But the next time the lid needs to come off of this bad boy it will be so much easier! I also used just a little dab of anti-sieze on each of the 10-23 fasteners. Life is good!

Depending on the machine, some of the harder to reach nuts were replaced with caged nuts (like over the gen head) in later builds. Those are nice and easy to take apart.

I do see quite a few caged nuts as well. They seem to be pretty stout. The panel over the fuel tank received a bunch of these riv-nuts along with the caged nuts.
