My Turn for Shifter Bushings

I guess it's my turn. My SEE has always shifted very smoothly since acquisition. That is until a few days ago. It is almost impossible to get into 1st, 2nd or 3rd. It goes into 4th fairly easily. I went ahead and ordered new bushings from EI. The transmission oil level is correct, so I'm assuming it is the bushings. I'll install them as soon as I receive them.

<My turn too, got 4' of snow at Christmas in PA and my SEE plowed like a champ! Went to go help the neighbor last weekend and would not go into gear and the next thing I know is I'm holding the shifter lever in my hand, it snapped off...... any ideas on where to get one? I did hear to replace the bushings while Im there as well, as soon as I get one I will!
So i slid a metal pipe over it just so I could get it home! wow

Wow! I'm surprised that the shifter snapped off. The problem is with these ex-military vehicles you have no idea what someone has done to them in the past. There have been some people with "Parts" SEEs around. I would wait and see if someone responds to your post.

No one was more suprised than me! lol but it was 7 degrees outside at the time......
but its a 2007 and had 212 miles on it, the grease fittings still had the shipping plugs on them- problem is these things sit so much then get used hard and I found the weak spot!

I slid a smaller metal shaft into mine just so I could find a gear and move it. Then parked it for the winter. Unimog dlr in CA said no shift levels avail, so im thinking i will be welding mine unless u come up w a better plan.

There are some people around with "Parts SEEs". I would check the posts and also put an ad for Parts Wanted. Check also on Benz World under the Unimog section. I've seen Unimog transmissions for sale on Ebay so you might find one there as well.

I recently let a 55yr old friend drive my FLU a week after I let a 16 yr old drive. The 16 yr old was quite ginger and treated the shifter kindly, perhaps not knowing any better. The older fellow was quite harsh with the shifter, yanking it around and really forcing it into gear. This is not necessary as mine shifts smoothly. I had to stop him and correct the behavior.
So maybe it is worth asking, do people shift as softly as they can, or are people yanking them around?

I shift my FLU very gently. No reason not to since it shifts so easily and smoothly. However, we don't know how the previous drivers treated them. I remember my days in the Army!
