Neat or other things you found when you purchased your truck

Anyone get anything interesting when you got the truck? I've read some people got fully equipped trucks with manuals, pioneer tools and other stuff.

Deep inside the metal under the passenger door opening I recovered a spent blank 223 (IIRC) cartridge with non civilian headstamps. I suppose its been in there since some training exercise in a bygone time. Considering how long my truck was in use as a firetruck and other things, I'm amazed nobody ever found it down there.

When I started on rehabbing the bed this past spring, I quickly found out it was much older than the truck ( 50s swinging mud flaps and all), and had originally been painted Air Force blue.

It aint much, I suppose, but I thought those were neat little bits of the trucks history to find.

Regarding history of my truck, I posted a pic on a local custom truck forum and had a member from right down the road reach out to me and informed me he was in the unit the truck was assigned to and rode in it in Iraq many times...

Most trucks I get are empty with the exception of an expired fire extinguisher or misc radio cables. A few times I've been lucky to find a 50 cal blank adapter or crusty torque multiplier but those are few and far between. The one unique time was a Kuwaiti Mountain dew bottle and a petrified personal protective device though I don't consider that a win..

There were a couple of nice tools in one of the 1031s I got, a big ball peen hammer, a good hacksaw, many packets of small fasteners, brake line bending tool, some other small items.

They were all on a upper shelf, maybe the guy who cleaned truck out before sale was short & could not see them.

When the vehicles came back from down range, to Germany, we used to find all kinds of stuff. I found Top Secret documents in Schweinfurt. Live ammo. Weapons parts, tools, and on and on. Right after the Great Sand Box War #1, some Germans at the POMCUS storage site called me one day to "COME OVER NOW". So over I went. In the corner of a M113, was a M-16A2, from a Guard unit. Shipping containers were like a treasure chest. You just never knew what was going to pop out.

TWO bottles of Vodka..8 varying packets of Polish sousages, Boxes and packets of chocolates, sweets, Sour doe breads, rolls, cakes. "sald creams" , Pickles, other foods....

3 axles! doors, starter motors, generators, two sets bed rails (wooden) and about 4 sets of the metel curved canvass rail supports. for the canopy.
Two of The waterproof didtributors, A carurettor.
Instruments, Boxes and boxes of NEW nuts bolts washers,
Winch drive shafts, Propshafts, front centre rear, Much more stuff I have forgotten now.
ALL NEW OLD STOCK!!
We totted up and the whole lot came to just over........Eight Thousand Pounds!!
The Truck itself was also A FULL ground up restoration!!
The engine and Caddillac Auto Hydramatic Transmission was IS (LIKE) New, and run like a 'swiss watch'.
The truck Itself...?

I am sure more than a few things found their way home tucked in storage bins and such.

I've had all kinds of stuff left behind:

*Manuals, sometimes in pamphlet bags.
*Turn in documents.
*Directions to the turn in location.
*BII (although never a complete set of BII)...tools, tool wraps, fire extinguishers, jacks, snatch blocks, chains, wheel chocks, etc.
*Six plastic barrels of NOS tire chains for a deuce sitting in the bed. I believe each barrel was enough for one axle (duals only).
*A roll of toilet paper in the glove box of an M35A2.

My CUCVII came with a whole host of stuff. Maintenance packet, airfield placard/instructions, Pre-Shift inventory including SINCGARS S/N, and some other stuff. the vehicle was definitely prepped as if it had just come off shift and was going to be sent to another unit instead of DRMO.

I just found three bullet casings. I’m not a gun/ammo guy so they might not be old. I’ll post a pic after a bit.

DM's M45530C TFFT I help work on has U.S. Army ration packs in the glove box compartment. from14 years ago!..(And) they are still there.

I am saving them for when I need a 'snack'

I still have biscuits (Hard tack) from when the HMS troopship Devonshire sank!
Was refloated, the biscuits 'rescued!...and sold in HUGE sealed tins...Which I bought one of (Containing about 400 packs of biscuits...) ..They STILL taste delicious.
Especially the 'biscuits fruit and nut'

Here are pics. Again, I am not a gun guy by any means. I’m sure this is probably modern, or for all I know fake. The end of it says “308” “F.C.” “NIM”.

…but, I did find them in the cab so that counts! Haha I bought my truck from a private party who owned it roughly 12yrs. I’m sure all the “cool” stuff has been found already lol

What's the strangest/most unusual things you've found after recovery?

I bought my M1061A1 from @fuzzytoaster this past weekend, and yesterday while taking it to get a VIN verification done I noticed I had a flat in the right rear tire. Being dumb, I pulled it forward and turned the trailer, resulting in me breaking the bead loose.

So today I take it to a tire shop to be checked out/repaired and it turns out to be a small staple hole in the tread, no big deal.... ANYWAY, while the guy is repairing it, he asks me "We're you charged extra for the jerky?", to which I replied "Huh?" I walked over and found this:



No telling how long that poor lil frog had been in there, but there he was!

I once found a live grenade in the toolbox of a truck I was inspecting, this was when things went through DRMO and was at Barstow. When I told the guy his reaction was "what?" for the first one and when I walked him out to the truck and showed him, his eyes got real big, said something along the lines of "OH SHIAT!" and then proceeded to clear the lot.

Found another like that at Barstow Truck too along with some smoke grenades and some 20mm rounds.

In 2009 from Govt Liq, i bought the M109A3 and its auction pics showed the usual ladder laying inside the van body... The day I arrived to load it, the ladder was gone. I marched right over to the GL man's office and questioned him but he had "no idea" about it.. I had no pictures of proof thus one's word against another, but I could see in his eyes he was full of sheet .. I am usually even-tempered but can lose my head when things are unjust... Thus to save myself from an MP visit, I offered him 50 bucks cash for a ladder "if he can find one." Well he makes a good effort to act as if he has no idea where to find one and during our little walk around the lot I happen to see one laying against the back wall of his little office. Well now, hey mister how about THAT one? It even had the big scratch in the paint along one side just like the one I saw in the picture.. So with $50 bucks in his pocket I carry it to the truck and finish my loadout. When I get the truck home, I cut the lock that was on the compartment under the driver's door. Lo and behold, inside is a brand-new 20-ton bottle jack, a new bundle of shop rags, a couple gallons of OE-15W40, and an unopened gallon can of silicone brake fluid. (oddly enough, the truck does not leak anything nor burn oil). Oh, as if that was not enough, under the passenger seat was a new roll of TP and a handful of scattered M60 mg links .. I guess I broke even !!

ps: karma works.. A pal that frequented the location told me a couple months later the GL guy lost his job , got caught peddling stuff on the side
