coolant drain plug

Hi
Can you tell me the location of the coolant drain plug on my 91, 6.2 . I'm going hook up a tank heater.

passenger side, lower hose, about where the tie rod for the passenger tire crosses (just above that), lowest point of the hose. (That section is metal.)

It is a petcock. Define “tank heater”. Coolant heater should be close to bottom of system to circulate coolant. The coolant tank is the highest point. Are you installing a block heater?

We know for sure what a block heater looks like - but maybe not a block tank heater?

It is a Kat's 1500 watt tank heater for the cooling system P/N 13150.

I put a Kats 11612 block heater in yesterday afternoon. Took about 45 minutes to drain and catch the coolant and about 30 minutes to remove the freeze plug and install. Easy job .

I think you would be better served with the heater in the freeze out plug hole than the inline tank, imho

So that has 3/4” hookups and no pump to move coolant. Where will you put it? 9” long and 3” wide with a 5’ cord.
It looks odd that the ports are 90 degrees of each other.

In regards to using a frost plug heater, I tried three of them from Kat's. The first lasted about a year and a half, The second about four months and the last about three weeks. I made sure the element was not touching the block on the inside and it was never on more than a couple hours.
I have tried contacting Kat's by email twice and on their web three times and by phone leaving a message twice and they haven't gotten back to me.
So that's why I'm trying the tank heater.

That heater has to be plumbed into the heater hose. You can run into problems with the circulation being blocked by the engine thermostat in some configurations . Hope this helps.

Also do not forget to open the heater valve or the water is not going anywhere, those are not real effective, how about a magnetic heater?

Zero start is the brand I have used before.
