Talking about obese. With $ 175K as asking price, you need to sell a lot of food before earning that back. Throw in fuel consumption and other running costs and I wonder who would buy that rig. Maybe it would work for high-end special events, but even then. Nice though.

Check with John Appell. He did it on a M916A3 . You may have overheight issues on containers. Much like the PLS trucks do.

Time to resurrect this great thread....!

This video shows some good pulling action and 168 wheels turning (if I counted correctly)...

This is one of the only two HET's that ever came to this country. I brought them for a customer and friend of mine, back in 2013 - certainly not for show and parades exactly, or taking the family out for dinner...:giggle:
Both trucks have been worked hard all these years and still going strong!

The TMs specify 231,400 lbs (105 056 kg) gross combination weight rating (GCWR) and that would be for the M1070/M1000 combo. But nothing is written if that was on- or off-road. Clearly, the vehicle is capable of towing way more than 70 tons, on paved roads at least.

Wish I could find any brochure or document (maybe even from Oshkosh themselves) that would say something about its "real" maximum towing capability on paved level ground, when loaded with a 25 ton weight where the fifth wheel goes.

There was an outfit out west AZ. CA. paying big money to get them they have regular semis haul the super long blades for those ugly electric wind mills that litter the dessert to the road truck friendly spot then the 1070s hitch to the trailers and take them out in the dessert and up in the hills then bring the trailer back to the holding yard . I wouldnt think there could be that many co's building those wind mills

Thanks Frank. Nothing new there for me, really; I've read that exact info many times already and it doesn't help me much. Our (hyper-bureaucratic banana republic)-DOT wants to see a "Certificación" - for the ability to pull up to 200 tons, on-road...(!) No such certificate - no permit...!:-x

That's exactly what these trucks have been doing most, here: transporting the heavy components for the 3-5 MW windmills, as well as the crawler crane parts, from where the road ends to the final mounting site, usually a short but difficult trip. (post #78) On the other hand, the M1000 trailers (for the short & heavy stuff weighing up to 100 tons) proved to be good even for long distance hauling.

 Surprised since these have been released to the public someone isn't actively looking to change the differential gearing out or have done it yet. They should would make a buck or two doing so, heck even buying them up changing them out then selling them. At least get a 4:** something there.
Drinks more fuel than my loader and it weighs more and possibly pulls more.

Planetary hubs make the gearing very deep. Only option for that swap is that from a RCV or a PLS.

They will increase speed but not something that is available.

Most simple solution is a Allison 4700 from a Provost Bus with a DDEC IV. That gives 2 additional over drives. This is what is used in the A1 model behind the C18.

WOW! That's one pretrip and posttrip I don't want to do!
