Cab Vent Knob

Anyone know where I can find one of the screw on knobs for the vent or defroster pull knobs? Mine is missing for the vent.

I also need a knob for the dash dim/brighten switch.

If anyone knows where I could find these, that would be great.

I've seen some that appear to be screw on knobs, but not sure how you can verify they would fit? Do you know of any that will fit for certain, as I already considered this, but didn't want to order something I couldn't use.

Many use a set screw. But you need to know the shaft diameter and the thread (if any) if you want to thread them on.

You can do this with a nut if all else fails. Or take an existing knob to Lowes and find a bolt it fits (then you'll know the thread size).

Autozone, Pep Boys, etc often have generic replacement knobs.

Older Jeep had knobs that frequently need replaced. You might try a search for knobs for an old Jeep CJ.

I had some trick aluminum ones back in the day that were secured with a set screw, so they would fit a wide range of applications.

I found these in a few seconds, but there are others out there, black aluminum, plastic round or oblong...

FWIW, I've used the set screw type for a long while in a Jeep without issue. But I do not disagree, the proper screw on type is probably better.

It looks like 3/16" might be a common size for drawer pulls. If that's the case you could drop by Lowes and pick up a screw on knob in any of a hundred styles. ;-)

go by hardware store with good collection of SAE and Metric nuts..... record what each is on the baggy... and test fit the to find out the thread. Granted a thread gauge would help lol..... but honestly smaller the shank.. IMHO harder it is to use thread gauge unless you maybe couple it with a magnifying glass.

If you figure out the thread size/pitch; JW Winco and McMaster have a good selection of knobs.

We're all gettin old, bud. I put a light/magnifying glass in my garage a year or so ago. I have a couple pairs of safety glasses with magnifiers. 🧓

Get ya there.... though fine threads on very small shank are hard to see the smaller finer they get anyway though. age-ish / eyesight just makes it worse lol
