I'm sorry I wasn't talking about you KsM715. I should have had a split in there somewhere. So it could show I was referring to m35tom. You are right the multifuel definitely wasn't designed to do highway speeds. The point I'm trying to get across is with the right gearing you could still make it do just fine on the highway. It's gutless yes but on flat to intermediate land 70 shouldn't be a problem if using the right gearing it just won't get there very fast. If you wanted to build 70 mph 6x6 you're far better off starting out with an m813 run some semi tires and wheels and a 3 speed air shifted aux trans with od.

What a load of bull I Have a A2 That I bobbed and put 395's on it. I Then turned the fuel pressure up an drove 65 to 70 on the flats and only dropped down to 45 on the passes from Portland, Oregon to Hawk Springs, Wy with out a hick up. That was two years ago and I've put an additional 26000 miles on since. People people who complain about the loud noisy rough ride of a A2 are the same people who ride Honda 250 rebels 500 miles a year and wear full biker gear.

Thats not 80. Push that skinny pedal down a little farther and squeeze it to 80 for a sustained run and see how long your motor lasts.

As for the second part. The next truck I see with a bumper sticker that says "loud pipes save lives" Im gonna take those pipes and shove them where the sun dont shine. The only time you can here the loud pipes is after they've gone by. (Nobody called out the character of the OP's lifestyle, just that he may be exaggerating a little)

Maybe you should direct your remark to this guy?

I'd like to clarify something because I got negative rep for it. I did not drive my bobbed deuce 80mph on a road with traffic. The highway was unoccupied. When I got to 80 it started wanting to walk across lanes. So I shut the truck down. The most the truck normally did was in the 65-69 range. That should also clarify why I didn't blow my motor when driving to NV as well. With the 1600s and 6.17s in the 5ton rear-ends. 65 was just a little over 2000 rpms.

Like other posts on here, I'll agree with some of.the early ones. The deuce was just not meant to be a highway type of vehicle or a vehicle with speed. Even if you can get it up to higher speeds, the rest of the truck wasn't designed around it such as modern vehicles. Keep it bone stock with some 395's and one can cruise 55 mph all day. It's not fast, but can be enjoyable, with breaks for stretches and maybe to untenderize the butt.

I sure dont want to rain on your parade here and the Deuce is a great truck WITH KNOWN LIMITATIONS! Speed, increase tire size will hurt the trucks already limited ability to climb hill at any kind of highway speed, and its already very limited with stock tires. You are going to have a LOT of insulating to do in and under the cab to make it livable without ear plugs all the time. I generally always run Deuces at 2200 RPM on the highway that comes to about 52 mph with stock tires if there is a hill you can cut that in half. I would not personally mess with the fuel you are potentially opening up a big can of worms and your complicating things for your self! In cab comfort, everything in the Deuce is for function there is NO in cab creature comforts unless you add them.
A deuce was my second military truck and I have owned a few of them, great trucks but in you case I think your pushing things a bit, If I were in your shoes I would be looking at a 939 series 5 ton, they are already setup in much better fashion to do what your looking to do and with and automatic anybody can drive it, way better power, much more accommodating inside and they can climb a hill at a much better speed than a deuce can. Pricewise your going to be about the same cost. The 5 ton is higher cost initially but after you do all the things to make the Deuce livable your going to be at or exceed the 5 ton initial cost. There is ONLY 1 down side to the 5 ton and that is it wont get the fuel economy of the Deuce, in virtually every other way its a better choice!

When I think of the Deuce, I dont think speed and modern comfort, I do think power, and mechanical performances peculiar to a truck of that size with all whell drive. In my case, my truck also had a winch and crane!
That's what I think too. With a winch, imo, just makes the truck that much more capable. A crane, I sure would love to have one, but I can see a butt ton of benefits to having one!

Hello ToddJK, If you REALLY want one, like I did, consult the classifieds, and also post that item in the classifieds too. Remember, if you cant get an original, you can build one of your own. Anyone who owns a Deuce, like you and me, dont take no for an answer!
