Hi this old dump truck I bought couple years ago was titled as make - Continental, which is the engine now make . Lol guess that was the only think legible on truck besides stamped vin . Is there any other way to tell who is manufacturer?

There already is a thread about this on SS somewhere that has been well-answered by others as well as myself .. My portion is there is one thing to look for as part of the process of elimination.. Look at the windshield hinges, driveline yokes, and spring u-bolt plates .. If they are stamped with a casting number ending in R1, R4, R91 , anything like that with an "R" , it is an International as long as Diamond-T and Mack did not use IH castings on their builds .. The other process of elimination is to determine the year based on the builder's VIN .. 1964 to 1970 it will be Kaiser, Kaiser-Jeep., Jeep Corp in that order.. 1971 to early 1980's (end of M39-series production) it will be AM-General .. If prior 1964 it can be any one of the three earlier builders mentioned

Thanks for this info . I’ll have to look at some of those things . Title says 1961. The air cleaner is on the passenger fender .

is there a 1" hole in cab floor above accelerator pedal? (or plugged hole?). That was for the starter pedal and one of the spotters that would confirm it is indeed a pre-64 truck that had a R6602 gas engine.. If so, you most-likely have an IHC, but it could also be a Mack or Diamond-T , which were built in much-smaller quantity.. IHC had the lions share from 1951 to 1963. I ran into several IHC 5-tons during my service and owned 4 at one time , but have only seen one gas Diamond-T and two gas Mack's advertised during the last 25 years , for what it's worth .. We can't always rely on a Title year , ie: we have per tag and other features, a 1953 IHC M62 .. However the SF97 person ignorantly titled it as a 1980's AMGeneral.. Imagine the nightmare that one is going to be to get registered. GSA has been totally unresponsive on the issue for over a decade now

IHC used a 4-digit numerical VIN on the 5-tons .. What would be interesting to learn from members who may have a Diamond-T or Mack build, is to compare the structure of their VIN. If different from the IHC format, it would certainly hit your nail on the head :hammer: .. On another computer I have several pics of VIN plates from deuces and 5-tons that were at the first online auctions of long ago, showing build dates, different builders, and VIN structure of the rare trucks including Mack and Diamond-T.. That computer has a bad MB and in permanent storage at this time. I probably have a backup disk, also in storage, unfortunately

I saw a plugged hole above pedal but it’s further up on fire wall . Right at bottom of firewall before it curves and angle down . Also looks to have a plugged smaller hole next to it

Cool! Now all you need is a rifle rack and a 1950s IHC M1 Garand to put in it 😁
IHC Garand may be the hardest (most expensive) item to get, 336 thousand made, most 'disappeared' overseas via 'lendlease' in the latter 50's (300k Garands were left in Vietnam when we withdrew).
