So I ordered new glow plugs from HPG and they arrived today.

Concerns:
- They arrived all together in a sack.
- They don't look very "new"
- Some of the wrench flats are rough like a wrench slipped
- Some of the plating is coming off

Pros:
- They are all 3/8ths
- They all test between 2.0 and 2.5 ohms

Thoughts?

Take pictures. Rub them on tissue to prove there is Diesel residue. That proves they are used. Then return them and insist on a new set in the box!

Those look like a returned set they are trying to re-sell.

I never expected that from HPG.

Based on my experience with David at HPG, he'll make it right ASAP. He's been nothing but top notch and I seriously doubt they purposely tried to pass off used as new (assuming they are in fact used).

I would have called HPG and asked them first.

I'm not an expert on HMMWV glow plugs but here's what I notice. There doesn't seem to be any signs glow plug wires were attached... no scratches or scrapes that likely would occur from the wire. The Hexes don't show signs of use really. The heater part could be darkened like that due to testing to make sure they work during manufacture.

You're hard of noticing then. ;)

You would have called and asked them first... before what? I haven't installed them.

The hexes show varying degrees of damage, from none to serious; one has damage that left a very sharp displacement. My poor skills at macro photography nothwithstanding, that should be plainly visible in the photos.

There are signs that wires were attached, and one has what looks like displaced metal where the wire arced to the tip.

Additionally, all of them show chipping in the plating where they were torqued into the engine, again, plainly visible in the photos.

I contacted HPG by email Friday and the reply was "Hi there. let me check the bins and see what GEP is sending us..hte last order was new ones." That was the last I heard. I don't really know what that means either, does that mean they sell used GPs as a matter of routine? I figure I won't hear back until next week.

I thought you were asking for "thoughts", my mistake.

I don't think I am "hard of noticing" but the obvious stuff you pointed out doesn't seem as obvious to me. Was just giving you my "thoughts".

"before what?" ... before posting on here or anywhere without even giving the vendor a chance to reply or respond. Posted on Thursday, emailed them on Friday. It was just a "Thought" ... never said you installed them.

I'm not saying they are or are not used and even if they have been used for 3 minutes in an engine they are not new and I would agree with you but I would do that off line with the vendor first since simple mistakes can happen. Then if it was a problem that isn't getting resolved or after the vendor makes good share my experience. Again, just a thought .... my thought, solicited by "Thoughts?".

Good luck either way.

Thanks. The idea of asking for thoughts was to see if I was being too picky. I always hold out the idea that I might be completely wrong about a thing, so that's why I posted here first, to get other's opinions. I appreciate yours! I hope my comment didn't sound condescending- it wasn't meant to be.

I thought of contacting HPG first but I'm glad I didn't. I was pretty sure they looked used but I wanted more opinions first. I think they'll come through in the end.

Spent the last five hours shoveling 6" of snow off the driveway and sidewalks (lotta sidewalk) then had to go back an chip up the ice where I drove over the snow we had earlier in the week. That's a lot for a 59 year old curmudgeon. I find it remarkable that just weeks before Christmas not one of the half-dozen teen boys in this neighborhood was out looking for some spending money shoveling driveways. In my youth there was competition for such work among us. Different generation I guess...

.
@Mainsail ,

Definitely a different generation. Or maybe mom and dad just hand out money these days rather than letting "junior" earn his or her own. Used to be that there were lots of kids that were willing to cut grass, clean gutters, rake leaves, and deal with snow. Snow around here - not too often - but all the other things used to be something I was willing to gladly pay for...

As I expected HPG is stepping up to fix the problem. I got a tracking number for new GPs.

Tell me/us about the M249. Airsoft, where'd you get that? My M1151A1 had 5.56 and 50 BMG shell casings everywhere inside. So looking to add eitber an M249 or M2 at some point.

They make a few different airsoft M249's. They make a featherweight, middleweight and heavy version. The heavy is almost all metal, the middleweight is mostly all metal. The featherweight one is mostly plastic. You can find them on Ebay used or catch them on Evike on sale. Plan on around $350ish to $450ish to buy one. As a side note, the real M249 ammo box fits the airsoft one which is what I recommend you do. The real military pintles will not work with the airsoft versions. The airsoft M249 can be made to fit but that requires some cutting, sanding, etc. Let me know if you have any other questions.
