What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

New group 31 batteries installed, ten year old 6tls had major plate damage. Although the battery shop I took them to were able to get the specific gravity back up on em so those will be picked up later in the week. I also fixed the glow plug, no seat belt and low coolent light, and inop fuel...

no clicking with new glow plugs

I replaced my gps early last summer anong with the 12v bypass and a new st85 relay. All was well untill the cold here killed my batteries. Replaced with good grp 31s and now the wait light fails to come on. The relay thunks when I jump the top (input?) side of the relay with the next down...

    heater quick fix

I'm having the same issue. The dash switch melts, I'm assuming from having to run the blower of high for the majority of the time, and doesnt stay connected. I know right where it is and can get my arm in there to wiggle it with out taking the dash apart.

    Auto start

Has anyone attempeted to install an auto start on they're CUCV? I can honestly say I'm lazy and when its -30 outside I don't relish the idea of heading out to start the 1009 up. I'm wondering if anyone has had success instaling an auto start on a +25 year old diesel.

36-3580 HD HEADLIGHT HARNESS Questions M1009

how many relays and how much wireing is involved in this harness upgrade. I'm looking at putting one together myself; living in Alaska has its perks but at the same time doubles the price of anything from LMC.

    M1009 Tailgate Piece

I;ve got the same pieces in my tailgate. I was also having problems getting the window all the way down untill I noticed that my 200 gallon water tank had slid backwards into the tailgate and bent it in just a bit. Two seconds with the tire iron to bend it back out and problem ws solved.

    cold start

I believe they are Katz 60 watt heaters. You dont want the high wattage pads as they will sulfate your batteries. I pick em up at Alaska Industrial Hardware which is a sad version of Harbor Freight that costs more and doesn't carry all the cheap nick nack type of stuff.

    cold start

I only have the battery heater pads underneath the 6TLs, seems to work fo me, hasn't been above zero here for a month and a half.

    cold start

Don't forget about the batteries. They need to be warm enough to provide all the current to turn the starter after a glow. Small 60 watt heater pads are all you need. With a properly operating glow plug system I would even forgo the block heater. My block heater was accidently unplugged (at...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

After replacing the thermostat I noticed I seem to be missing the sheet metal piece that protects the upper rad hose form the belts. I have no idea what it looked like. If some one could maybe take a photo of one I could make something up.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Just replaced my thermostat. 10 minute job if you dont count having to go to wally world to get kitty litter to clean up the mess. This is my last ditch effort to get heat in the cab. After this I'm just gonna guess that its the -30 temps that is keeping me from enjoying the heat.

    Heater core replacement

I have also replaced my heater core with the aluminum POS core. I am now regretting it having highs of 0 around here at the moment. Anyone know of where to get a NOS replacement?

    M1008 hubs

Not to thread hijack, following the -10; when I lock in my warn hubs on the 09, turning counterclockwise to where its pointed at lock, they click out of free but don't click into lock. I am wondering if this is SOP. Now that there is snow on the ground I just drive around locked in so that I...

    M1009 Front Windshield Defroster

I bought one of those the other day, not a chance in Hades that it will defrost my windshield in a timely manner. The thing is a cheap (I mean REALLY cheap) blowdrier.

    rear window crank

I guess I never understood how the window crank worked. When I bought my 1009 the crank was slipping but worked. Eventualy the whole kit and kaboodle broke of. I ordered the new crank assembly from LMC, came in chrome but nothing a little sandpaper and a can of flat black rustoleum couldn't...

    Location of Engine Coolant Drain?

I live in block heater land, and plug in when temps dip below 20 F, which started sometime at the begining of October. I also have battery warmer pads installed to give me full power at -40F. The hole thing is plugged into a timer so that it only starts warming things up a couple of hours...

    Rear Window Handle

I went two years opeing the rear window with pliers. Finally got aroung to ordering the crank from LMC and fixed the clutch piece with a little picture haning nail. Seems to be holding up so far, we'll see what happend when the window freezes shut this winter.
