Poor thing - first you take away its axle, and now this?! If only it could talk, it could be a spokestruck for the cause, as well as for testicular cancer - Lord knows it can relate to removal of its "manhood".......
Honestly, though I applaud your efforts - talk about a great way to increase...
WW2Chevy - Thanks for the links - I've been researching these trucks on-and-off for a few years now, but haven't got as much info as I'd like - the Dodge site is new to me. Nice to see some of these in the midwest.
Obviously the truck is going to need lots of help to reverse the changes made during its civilian life, but that is part of the beauty of it - I won't feel too guilty making it my own. The RH rear tire is only leaning because the other side is flat, and I was only able to get two decent pics...
On Saturday, a friend and I went to pick up my new truck. Some of you may remember the thread I started a few months ago regarding the M211s that were for sale at a local salvage yard for $200 / ton. Well, the same price applied to this truck, which I claimed on the spot - it came out to $520...
That's good enough for me - I'd think 20 minutes would be sufficient, and if you did have two aggressive tires rubbing at 60, I bet you'd notice .
Have you thought about doing some lettering on this truck to advertise 100dollarman.com? - possibly a military-like stencil job on the...
Wow. That looks awful sexy - can you report back after you've had the truck up to highway speeds to let us know if the rears grow enough to contact each other?
Now where's that "thumbs-up" smiley............
If you are referring to of-road conditions, and if we can apply what I've learned from too many years of working in the mud with tractors, and playing in it with mud trucks, I have come to one conclusion..........
The more square inches of rubber, the better. The most rubber on the ground...
With that gearing and tire combo, it would be a zombie disorientation vehicle with all the smoke and 6.2 rattle dominating the area.....err, I mean perimeter .
Agreed on the 14 bolt - they are very good - 'bout the only thing GM has ever done right in terms of drivetrain strength (and that is not my opinion, or an exaggeration). Fortunately, GM Dana 60 fronts are relatively cheap and plentiful.
I used to run a locker in my front axle. It was a handful on ice, and of course when powering through a turn (not a good idea, btw), but boy would it hook up! I think, though, that a Gov-Pop will be gentler in turns than a real locker and easier to live with in general, but still give...
What an adventure! Glad to hear everything worked out in the end. And now you know what kind of people you were dealing with - customer service like that is worth alot these days.
This is one of those weekends that you will always remember fondly.........well, maybe not just yet, but in...
Looks to me like the front axle is too narrow to be an M139. I guess the spacers could have been pulled for some reason, or the whole axle might have been changed along the way (along with almost everything else......poor thing)
I am not a Jeeper, but those lights the Jeep guys mount on each side of the windshield have grown on me lately - the Deuce has a similar windshield.......
The location is less than ideal, but it does have a few advantages:
- high location will illuminate deep holes with less shadows
- not...
**Cynic alert**
Why not buck the current trend and haul illegals out (stacked like wood should be efficient) and guns in, cause Lord knows every gun in Mexico came from some gun shop in Arizona anyway - no doubt bought at retail prices....
I heard it on the news, so it has to be true...
If there is one on the market, or coming soon, I will be towards the head of the line - a 5-ton selectable locker (air, electric - I don't care) would be just the thing for the front - but I could live with Detroits in the rear.
Agreed. I think the trailer fenders are too small, and the openings are too high relative to the fronts. I hadn't thought of using stock front fenders to fab up rears. That is a great idea! Hope to see pics if you go ahead with it.
As far as this truck goes, looks like you are doing...
