    cheap passenger seat

The local Mac's Hardware stores have small stacks of surplus HUMVEE cushions for literally a couple bucks apiece. They are mostly OD, some are tan, but they are all authentic MV parts :-D. Thought they'd be suitable for backrests or misc. uses.

    5-ton Detroit lockers needed badly!!

....the reason an open diff spins the tires opposite directions is because of the spider gears and the side gears - neither of which a Detroit has. A Detroit is in essence a slip-clutch - it is either engaged, or it is disengaged. Please explain how splined surfaces, engaged or...

    5-ton Detroit lockers needed badly!!

I have not seen a locker that will spin the other tire the opposite direction. I don't doubt that some loose limited slip diffs (Trac-Lok or Powr-Lok for example) will, since they still have spider gears and side gears in the case. But a Detroit? I frankly don't see how it would be possible. Can...

    Fired up the M135 today

Nice work! I love the sound of that motor, and have a weakness for the M135/211 series of trucks. Thanks for the videos!

    And the project has started

Sorry, I can't answer your question, but instead I will ask one......is that an un-molested deuce bed? I love the proportions, esp. when I visualize a set of 14.00 or 16.00-20s. Reminds me of Rizzo's 5-ton cargo, but somehow looks shorter.

Making your truck a tank, or converting your Deuce to a tracked vehicle

Here is the affordable version. These mini trucks run, what, $4-5K? and roughly the same $ for ATV tracks - I'd love to do some coyote hunting with one of these.

    Practical uses for a Deuce

BTW, the reason I originally clicked on this thread is 'cause I thought someone had actually come up with a practical use for my truck (even though it isn't technically a Deuce) Oh well, I'll think of something......

    Practical uses for a Deuce

Regret?? Are you kidding me? I only regret that I don't have a shop big enough to work on mine close to home. As far as practical uses, they are perfect for: -hauling out grass clippings -checking the mail -hauling sandbags during natural disasters - speaking of disasters, it would be time...

    Ford CUCV

Dang....I was hoping you wouldn't bring up trannies...I really don't want to pick on you or GM.......but here goes........the t-cases are the same in either brand, so we can discount them. The TH400, yes, is a solid trans - but the builders tell me that the bands are similar in size to a C-4 -...

    Ford CUCV

I like the GM IFS ground clearance-wise. It's just too bad the carrier won't hold up to any real use with real tires. Just imagine if they could get it to hold up, and then if someone built a lift that didn't drop everything, but instead increased height and travel at the control arms, and...

    Ford CUCV

Agreed on the 14-bolt. That is a great axle. And I will agree with the appeal of the '73-'87 GM trucks - everything is available, and most of it is cheap. AND it's a clean, attractive body style. My argument about axles will hold up across the board, in every weight class available. The...

    Ford CUCV

Actually, the TTB lifts are expensive by my standards, too - but about 1/3 the price of a GM IFS. I am comparing apples to apples - same year vehicle. As far as axle strength, it didn't start in '91. GM has had the weakest axles since the introduction of the 10-bolt in, what, '77? Ford tried...

    4WD dos/don'ts/cans/can'ts

Couple additional things - seems like many older 4x4s, regardless of manufacturer, don't always disengage from 4WD immediately after shifting. If you are moving forward with even the slightest load on the drivetrain, the t-case will generally remain engaged until you let off and coast - if you...

on a 1 ton civilan truck

Oops....yeah, that's a good point, and important. The banjo-type front axles are plenty strong, but would need the original t-case since the front axle's input is run "backwards".

on a 1 ton civilan truck

I think the hardest part is the front axles' width - people generally toss out the long side shaft, and cut the housing down to allow using short-side shafts on both sides. That will get the width close to matching the rear, and more proportionally correct for a pickup. Of course that means...

    can anyone identify these tires

Yep, but I think that's the reason they ride decent - that continuous strip contacting the road instead of individual lugs one after another. I see those tires new on the racks even to this day in the old-school Cenex/Farmers Unions around here - although they are generally the one-ton...

    Ford CUCV

Oh, boy..............IFS does not equal crap in a HUMVEE...try to achieve ground clearance like that with a straight axle. Your buddy's '92 Bronco is expensive to lift??? Check the price of a lift for a '92 GM ANYTHING, before you make such a ridiculous and ignorant comment. At least...

Want to see pics of gov. locker in CUCV's

If you are going to build a M1009 clone, I have a data plate (the shipping one with all the external dimensions on it) for one that could help complete the illusion......:-D
