The front tires (generally) carry the most weight, and consequently have the highest ground pressure. With duals on the rear, the difference is even greater. On soft or questionable ground, you would benefit greatly from a wider tire on the front to help improve your odds of staying on the...
That is a great response!! I will try that in the future.
Ordinarily, someone will ask "What are you going to use that for?" - and I will generally say "I have no idea" --- I know, not the best answer... honestly, I don't want people questioning my judgement like that. What's wrong with...
Oops....let me save you jokers the trouble -- "Holy thread resurrection!!"
Sorry, I was poking around in "Mechanical Upgrades" for the first time today, and didn't notice that it isn't very active.
My shallowest and least heart-felt apologies all around.
Yes, the 10-bolt is similar to the Dana 44 - it is a cheapened version with lower quality materials. It is common for the diff cross pin to elongate the holes where it passes through the carrier. Also, the tubes have a tendency to loosen and seperate where they are pressed into the carrier. I...
Looking forward to some progress pics!
Hate to hi-jack this thread to death, BUT with all the great trailer minds present - does anyone know if there exists a smaller (tandem or tri-) version of the M747 trailer that would be suitable for hauling up to 10,000 lb or so loads? I love the looks...
These projects are fun to follow, seeing what could be done to something I would love to own (especially the V100), but could never justify - of all the places for these vehicles to end up, your shop (and ultimately an LE agency) is really the best-case-scenario.
Seems odd to have the springs...
Got the package today!
Very impressed with Memphis Equipment - great price, and even better speed. The seal is already installed and greased, even - I am ready to go!
Now, if I can only get that input shaft nut off with so little room to work in between the trans and t-case.......
RE: Another Example
Thanks guys, for all the help.
I will begin negotiations soon - you know, I say "How about $X", and he says "How about $XXXXX", and I say "Let me get my checkbook."
Found one! Memphis Equipment has them, and at a very reasonable price.
Now hopefully this will take care of it. I'm not afraid of a replacing a bearing, or other easy to get to parts, but just hope that the rest is O.K. I REALLY don't want to drop that case out....
RE: dash redo .....
How about a layer of 1/4" closed-cell foam over it, then cover with some nice italian suede with contrasting stitching - chrome the knobs and switches, cut out the lettering, and backlight in the soothing glow of green neon........
.........oops, I was just going by the...
deuceman51 - I do have concerns that a bearing might have come apart and gone through the gears......if I get into mine and it can't be fixed, what would you want for yours? And what part of SD are you in?
I need an input shaft bearing retainer for my M139. I haven't been able to find anyone that sells anything other than maintenance items or complete cases. Anyone know who to try, before I start calling random MV magazine vendors? Also, are all the 5 ton cases the same?
The valve cover has "GMC" stamped on it - I think it must have been swapped in, as the cab looks Dodge. Curiously, the interior looks very civilian, yet there are no brand markings anywhere that I could see.
RE: Westy & Michelle
Congratulations to both of you - finding someone that loves you for who you are, and who embraces your unusual interests is a real blessing. Be sure to remind yourselves often how fortunate you are to have found each other.
I came across this old truck awhile back, and originally thought it to be a CCKW because of the GMC engine. But after a bit of research, I decided (by the seam above windshield and the curved grille guard) that it must be a Dodge. I assume it was originally military, or did they produce...
RE: Re: tractors ........
*Warning* - this opinion based on experience may be offensive to some -
The only reason to buy any other brand is because you can't afford a JD....unless it's tracked, then buy a QuadTrack......and no offense, but the only reason to buy a 2wd tractor is because you...
Re: RE: Re: RE: Renaming the Bobbed Duece???
You mean my (H2, H3, FJ-cruiser) can't climb a vertical slope with its awesome passenger-car tread tires?
Seriously, though, almost any model Unimog is more capable than our favorite toys....
