    Weekend project: M931A2 straight pipe

Turbo's are a "muffler" of sorts on their own. Without a turbo between the exhaust port and the outlet of the stack on your NHC, I bet it was loud! :) Speaking of turbo......the whistle of the 8.3 in my truck is incredible with the straight pipe. If I want to change the noise in the...

    Weekend project: M931A2 straight pipe

After reading all the posts about straight pipes, hearing the faint whistle of the turbo in my truck (and vivid memories of my old whistler turbo deuce....) and knowing the "cork" the stock muffler undoubtedly is in the exhaust, I dug around the garage, found a couple old 4" mandrel bends from...

    My new M931A2

I had to update...... Folks, this truck surprises me every day. And I mean that in a GOOD way! It has shown itself to be such a solid, strong-running, reliable rig. The only fixes I've had to do were the safety relief valve on the air tank (brass pressure relief), snug a couple air fittings...

    m923a2 with straight pipe

I eliminated my muffler and built a 4" straight pipe yesterday. I tried to keep it as "stock looking" as possible by reusing the original upper stack, painting it flat black and using the muffler shield. The sound is fantastic (DEEP sound and the turbo whistle reminds me of my old whistler...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

Thanks for the info and video! When you're used to stock RPM's, 2800 sounds impressive to say the least! I did my straight pipe/stack yesterday and can't wait to adjust the top fuel screw. I'm sure a governor adjustment or spring install will follow. So the HP10029 kit fits the MW pump? I...

    Mud flaps for M932A2

Fantastic idea. I JUST put my stock flaps on last night and yes, they are basically right on the tires. I do like your offsets much better. Thanks for the tip!

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Mud Flaps and a drive..... My M931A2 came with mud flaps behind the passenger seat but one was tweaked and it's mounting bracket was mangled. Some quality time with the torch, some paint and now I have flaps. Gotta say, I love the look with those big things in place.

    A big Thank You

I picked up their door handles; fit great, have what appears to be a VERY durable coating and come with stainless hardware. I can't get over the number of really cool parts they've devised and had manufactured for our beloved rigs. "Custom" parts for an M939........who would have...

What is the canister on the inside of the front bumper, driver side?M923A2

Oil pressure sending unit...... I just PM'ed you some sending unit info.

What is the canister on the inside of the front bumper, driver side?M923A2

So it's like the filters that used to be on the old L-Head Willys and the like? Pressurized oil goes in one end and what remains of that pressure that same pressure pushes it into the pan? Like the old Willys used to dribble back into the timing cover. Not a super effective means of filtration...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Wow! How I'd love to have a pair of those in my M931A2.:drool::drool::drool:

    M939 air filter modification question.

I have a pdf file from Donaldson filters listing a SEA of diesel engines and their airflow requirements. They list the Cummins 6CTA8.3 as 632cfm. Their rating is for 250hp at 2500 rpms so I'm sure a slightly lower airflow would suffice (none of us do that sort of rpm). I just looked...

    Draining Fuel Filter - M923a2

I just replaced my fuel filters last week. WIX 33401 for the big filter. It included the correct large canister gasket AND the o-ring for the screw. WIX 33472 for the engine-mounted small one.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I replaced a leaking safety relief valve from the air tank-to-dryer hose on my M931A2. Piece of cake. Picked it up at a local auto parts store: Bendix Part No. 205105 150PSI just like the rusty inside leaky original. I took it to work and tested the relief pressure before bolting it on.

    m923a2 with straight pipe

Here is an SS vendor with a straight pipe for our trucks: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?121087-New-straight-pipe-exhaust-system-for-your-truck&highlight= I haven't used one personally but it sure looks like a nice piece!

An 1102 bed? That's an interesting choice. Can't wait to see the finished product!

    My new M931A2

Thanks, Smokinyoda! No luck on my old deuce. I tell you what......a man sure gets spoiled in the 5 ton. Talk about "cushy" with that automatic and power steering. Amazing how easy it is to drive. Like I tell everyone who asks about my truck.....it doesn't FEEL as big as it is when you're...

    My new M931A2

We FINALLY have some decent weather in the forecast so getting the big green machine cleaned up and maintained can happen.

    My new M931A2

I am definitely having visions of a bigger version of my old bobbed deuce. And yes, that tan top seemed like a "sign" when I saw it on GL. [thumbzup]
