I live and park my 998 on a decent hill. I've found myself worrying about the truck rolling, as these don't have a park setting (smart!).
With children in the area, and soft doors that don't lock, I'm thinking this might be too many chances for an issue. Currently, with this in mind, I have been...
Sold my Jeep TJ to pick up the M998. Ran Detroits front and rear on it. Agreed about the wet and slippery pavement, they can bite you. But you do get used to them, and they actuate under throttle so get off the pedal and it will unlock. Big fan, more reliable than the ARB. I guess it would be a...
Lucky! I knew that there was a leather H1 wheel, wanted it but could'nt find it.
The steering wheel diameter is identical, just the rim thickness is different.
When I get a second I'll check the rim widths with a caliper.
Update: Posted pictures of the width difference.
If anyone has the part...
Looking to pull your steering wheel? This might save you some time.
The early original steering wheels put on Humvees were terrible. Very narrow, felt like you were grabbing nothing.
The later models got a thicker wheel which feels more appropriate to the vehicle. These can be found on Ebay...
Manual Glow Plug Controller Walkthrough
I'm making this as I have time, so please bear with me. ;-)
I will be marking the pictures and updating them, along with a list of parts & a step-by-step.

Ebay Parts:
HMMWV Glow Plug Distribution Box Interface Harness P/N: 12379865 $42.50
24V...
Snowtrac & I are in agreement.
With the box in, and the factory harness unplugged from the glow plugs, there won't be self starting or spontaneous combustion. It will just sit there in it's spot on the firewall being happy, thinking it's still in control. It will still do any other jobs that it...
Why do you want to take out the box? Just leave it in there, keep it as factory as possible.
If you want, install a manual start system by getting another glow plug harness. That way, if you decide you want to pony up another $600 or so for another box, you can just plug it in.
I didn't bother hiding the button. The factory control box is much more competent at burning out the plugs than a random button pusher in my mind. Have to wonder how they ever designed something like that. It's a military vehicle, common sense dictates you design a failsafe into it.
Mine failed...
Just did it. Deuce & a half momentary switch, 24v relay, extra set of factory glow plug cables (didn't want to cut into the existing ones), wiring and ring terminals. Works like a charm.
Will post thread with pics, part numbers and walk through soon.

Bought that one from Kascar, as the one mentioned 2 posts above was no longer available.
Changed mine the other day, but didn't need it as they weren't swollen, just dead.
Additionally, built and installed my new manual glow plug setup. Works...
That hose was a pain to get off! The part number I listed above gave a generic hose that was a couple inches too long, had to trim. My two attachment points were the same size, perhaps they just grabbed what was available for yours?
Here's the radiator hoses in the hmmwv, part numbers through Kascar:
Item #-----------------Description----------------------------------------------------------Price
23500084------------Hose 3/4 Id 5.5 inches long-------------------------------------$3.03
12339160------------Hummer, HMMWV...
Go with Permatex gasket maker on both sides, let it set for a little bit and put them together. Problem solved. The thermostat gasket failed me too, getting the old one off was painful also.
I just replaced every cooling system hose in my 998. When I get home I'll get you a parts list if you...
I had replaced the temp switch. The main problem I was having is 24v going to plugs full time (when engine is not running). Bad box.
Reporting back, the block heater works great! Keep in mind it was 50 degrees this morning so not cold. Had the heater on 2 hours in advance with a timer, 1000w so...
Yeah, I remember seeing it on Ebay for like $600.
Everybody says it's the best. It's the KDS S3 right? So many parts and names for the same thing, difficult to keep track.
