When one is prepping for surgery it is time to dig out all the tools and parts and carefully select which part is nice enough to be used. I have the right door in the raw. I must select the right screws and ones that are in the best condition. I like to use OEM fasteners when possible. Top vent...
I am going out to work on my project today. I will report back. Dr approved to do this work. I must complete this M1009. More later as it happens. Wish me Luck. Complete with pictures. Oh Joy,
I was in search of some OEM 6.2 starter bolts and 6 months ago I could have bought as many as I wanted. Now GM has discontinued them GM part number 15544950 is limited to what dealers have in stock. No big deal but I did buy the last 2 my local dealer had in stock and also the 28MT gear...
As a rule I do NOT reuse flex plate bolts. I recall that at the GM garage we always replaced them when doing transmission removals and replacements. The new bolts have red lock tight coated threads. I drove 1 CUCV M1028A1 174k and never had anything apart on the driveline. I sold it 10 years ago...
Those are the ballast resistors that are mounted on the firewall behind the air filter. I will get you a better reason as to why I retain them on my trucks but all I can think of is because they worked for the past 35+ years and yes, I have had glow plugs fail at times. I corrected the issue and...
I have 40 + year's experience and that small ground that runs to the radiator core support had nothing to do with the truck not starting. I started these with no core support and the batteries ratchet strapped to plywood on the right frame rail. The radiator had a wooden mount and was held with...
If that is the only ground you have to the engine that is the problem. You should have a large cable from the bottom negative buss bar running directly to the rear of the engine block and bolted down to a coolant cover plate stud/bolt with an M10 1.5 bolt. If you were drawing all the cranking...
That is a little diode that is wrapped in the tape. It has nothing to do with charging or starting. The large ballast resistors are the large cylindrical black pieces that were bolted to the firewall with 3 bolts and a heavy metal cover. You MUST load test batteries regardless of age and...
I rebuilt both of my vent windows. I was going to send them to Precision but at $564. plus, shipping both ways I passed. I bought the Precision seals from LMC and did it myself. It was NOT easy, but I was persistent. I used window cleaner as lube vs silicone. I didn't want silicone all over my...
A little late here, Is the starter support firmly attached and are the starter bolts tight and correct M10 x 1.5 and not 3/8"
the 3/8" will fit and get tight but not hold under the stress of starting. Good Luck. If the flex plate is chewed turn the engine a bit and see if it engages.
Batteries are low. They may have 12 volts, but they will not pass a load test. Get them checked with a battery scan tool or an old fashion load tester that puts extreme load on them and holds the load without dropping amperage. Voltage is only the beginning. You are making problems for yourself...
And then the next day I went to work and had a minor heart attack. I am sitting tight at the moment recovering. I guess it is getting time to slow a bit. My personal CEL came on and I drove myself to the hospital. Recovering at home. I have plans that keep getting sidetracked.
The Navy CUCV came from the factory OEM 3 color wood land camouflage. Just wanted to set that straight that the navy did not get a blue CUCV from the factory. I had a few navy CUCV's all camouflage.
I just bought a set of OEM A C Delco Group 31 part number 1111. That is what came from the factory in the CUCV. I am putting them in my current build M1009 build. Time to get it running and out in the daylight after many years of being in the barn.
This is being difficult. I guess I will need to remove the shock absorber so I can get the spring center pin out. I made the mistake of taking the pin nut off before I have the .99 Harbor Freight clamps in place. Good thing was the bolt stayed in so I just tightened the clamps. The clamps lay...
Ok I had an idea to reduce some of the drive shaft angle. I moved the spacers on the transmission cross member to the bottom frame flange. I now have a 36 degree driveshaft angle. Which means nothing to me o hate lift kits and anything like them. I am still waiting on axle shims tonight I...
