AFAIK Michelin's XML tires have not be cloned yet. But Triangle (which may be the largest tire manufacturer in China) does make the TRY66, which could be considered a XZL clone.
The picture below shows one Russian truck (Pantsir-S1) stuck somewhere in the Ukrainian mud, after both rear tires...
No. The most common "MRAP to Deuce" conversion uses a wheel with a 10-on-335mm bolt pattern and Ø281mm pilot hole. Plus a #1/2" adapter plate and hardware to bolt everything together.
Like this one....
The wheel you posted would need some extensive modification before you could bolt on such an...
Which MRAP wheels? There are different sizes/types out there, most are 20x10" and have a backspace of ~11". (Even with a 1/2" adapter plate, your F-L tire will rub on the pitman shaft.)
Post pics of the wheels you have in mind.
The G272 MSA are 12.00R20s and the recommended rim size is 20x8.5".
A to 1st Q: No, it doesn't.
A to 2nd Q: you can... but you will end up with way too much caster and a bad angle, prop shaft to diff pinion.
I suggest reading this thread.
This is what I do... (4-5deg positive caster is what you want, not more.)
This shows the whole assembly (AKA "west-coast mirror")....
Note part #2, which goes on the inside of the cowl.
That one missing angle bracket shouldn't be too difficult for you to replicate. Same goes for cutting/drilling two pieces of 1/8"x1" flat stock.
This picture shows where that bracket...
TNJMURRAY has it listed here, NOS with the correct NSN, but the image shows a TC lever...
I would check with them, just in case.
Of course that handle can be reproduced exactly, but for that you should have one complete assembly to copy from, rather than go from drawings/pics.
Besides the short...
Paper gaskets are history... Use RTV only on all surfaces, except in between the aluminum front cover and engine block, where it takes an anaerobic sealant, like Loctite 518.
I found some HMMWV 6.5's also had the water pump and its backing plate sealed with #518, even if that is not the typical...
Thank you Chris for even starting this all (in the past century...!!) And tell us the truth: when you gave SS the initial kick, what was the number you expected to ever see? ;)
I still remember the days when there were only a handful posters here and every one knew the other's real name...
Even if this isn't exactly the original seal (because it has that extra lip), the photo clearly shows what side goes in first.
I have rebuilt several of these winches and never had a problem like you described.
The seal goes in until flush with the drum, not more.
In the second photo you can...
Download this TM and scroll down to page 346...
The 10K-Garwood front winch on the early Deuces (M135, M211) is exactly the same as on the M44 series. In that TM you will find perfect images and a very detailed description for every step of a complete rebuild.
Page 353 reads this, about the...
Agreed. The problem is, when unlocked the lever could be moved accidentally. Or even on purpose, by an "uninvited" operator, while you left your truck parked to go shopping....... The fact that that latch is kind of hidden helps to prevent the latter.
See TM 9-2320-279-24P, Fig. 316, Item #4 WEDGE, WIRE ROPE
The wire rope goes through a slot in the drum side(flange) and then it forms a loop which gets wedged (with part #4) into a pocket - which is integral to the drum.
Certainly not built for synthetic rope...!!
