    F-35 Vertical Landing

Someone sent me this in an e-mail. Probably has some fake elements (The plane seems to float away in level flight with very little airspeed.) Battle of the X planes part 1 is available thru PB Nova 105 episodes 48.2 GB (download torrent) - TPB

    Vietnam era photos

My friend Scott sent me these 3 links. The top one has many Vietnam vehicle pictures most with captions. 28 pics of the V-100 alone. The slider on bottom has a pause button if you don't like the sound. www.militarypolicevietnam.com/MoreMPs.html The second link may already posted on SS by...

    Why so little power?

The LD/LDT/LDS basically share the same internal parts. The difference in power is due to volumetric efficiency increases due to turbocharging. Additional boost (LDS) is problematic due to the lack of intercooling and the high compression ratio. Big rigs engines designed for big power have...

how to turn up fuel...in pictures?

That might be the LDS 465-1 troubleshooting manual which states 18-20Hg art 2400RPM (~9-10ps) and 8-10" Hg at 1600RPM(~4-5psi). See page 34. It would seem that another 200RPM (2600rpm) would create about 12psi. I found that if my LD w/D turbo set at this level will create excessive EGTs...

how to turn up fuel...in pictures?

Screw and the 2 nuts are under this cover. I did one not long ago. Moved it a turn and nothing much happened. Advised that a pyrometer was important but was overuled by the owner. Turned it a second turn and not much happened. Turned it all the way and got lots of power and smoke. Pushed again...

    LD Continental Multifuel Motor Questions

My LD was weak even with a lot of available fuel (smoke). Adding a used "D" turbo was easy and cost about $300*. The change was dramatic with a large power increase and no smoke. A pyrometer showed high EGT at 16psi+ at 2600rpm (note - the highest EGT occur at the lower part of the operation...

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

I just noticed 'main bearing' should be 'rod bearing'. I have corrected my original post

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

I don't think it is an issue. The valvetrain runs at half crank speed. That's 1300 cycles per minuite at redline, quite slow by auto standards. Valve springs can get weak as time goes by and some of these engines are 40+y old. Increasing the boost also puts more demands on the intake valve...

Deuce vs. 79,800 lb rig: Fail

This one of many good reasons why thanks might be offered. The example may save others from making the same mistake. A max load big rig has bad manners compared with an empty. Perhaps the driver had got by before because he was lighter...Leaving the road loaded is always a bad idea. Sounds...

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

Page 33 of the LDS-465-1 (June 69) troubleshooting manual states manifold pressure is to be set at 18-20" Hg at 2400rpm, full load. This is about 9-10 psi. Page 9 states the HP is 170-185 at 2600rpm The graph on page viii shows a 10hp increase between 2400 and 2600rpm. A 200 rpm increase at...

    M38A1 Coolant Leak from Head/Block

If you go that "auto parts remedies" look for Moroso Ceramic Seal. There are two types. One is for use with the existing coolant and the other is used with 100% water. The latter is the better product. I was never a big believer in miracle cures but tried it and it fixed a cracked head (1/2...

max HP out of a 465 multi fuel?

Metal is a lot stronger in compression than tension. Power compresses the rod (where it is strong). The piston reversal at TDC puts the rod in tension. The force increases at an exponential rate as RPM goes up. This is why a lot of rods fail. Tension can also cause the big end to go out of...

818 now with turbo and pics.

This image in post #100 shows rubber hoses awfully close to the turbine housing. The iron housing will start to glow red at about 975*F(in daylight). Radiant energy can jump an air gap faster and more efficiently than convection currents. EGT can reach 1200*F and cause turbine housings to...
