Can you remind us what issue you're having that makes it seem the timing is off or IP is bad?

    Speedometer Failure?

Yeah at the moment it is but everything typically comes apart easy enough at this point 😂 so I would be adding grease to the back of the speedo where the cable attached? Or to the cable itself? I’ve read on here about people greasing the cable but haven’t see much on how to lube the speedo itself.

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

You’ll be able to turn the pump with the lines attached. Should be 15mm nuts, just loosen them a little and you’ll be able to turn the IP. You’re only turning typically a few line widths and it’s extremely thin so it’s not much. You may have to remove the air filter but that would be it.

    Speedometer Failure?

What is the best way to grease it? I'm assuming this would be in the speedometer itself right?

    Glow plugs low voltage

Not to give too obvious of a reply but sounds like you've done some work to the vehicle, did you happen to check if the pink wire on the IP was inadvertently disconnected? And to tag onto the other recent replies, did you have the injectors out/disconnected before? It takes surprisingly long...

    Speedometer Failure?

Today while coming back from a long trip with the M1008 I noticed that the speedometer seemed to be running faster than normal. Usually it was 3-4 mph fast at 65 mph, however with a quick check of the gps it was showing 12mph faster. By the time I got home an hour later it was showing 20 mph...

Blown head gasket or something else?

I have both a set of 6.2 and almost new Promaxx 6.5 heads I’m looking to get rid of. If you’re interested send me a PM!

    CUCV M1008 Build

Time for a 1000 mile update since the new motor/turbo was installed. Well it sure feels like a completely different truck now, power is (obviously) significantly better than a stock 6.2 and drivability is much improved especially when climbing hills. I highly recommend the Quadstar Tuning...

bed toppers that fit a M1008

I’ve heard 80s to early 90s Ford caps will also fit a Squarebody. I don’t think anything newer will fit as bed heights changed. I got lucky found a cap for sale on the side of the road, don’t know what it was originally for but it fits really well. Not the best condition but $50 and good enough...

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

Looks real nice! What do you use for chassis paint after sandblasting?

6.5 Diesel 97.5-2003 Main Bolts Discontinued

I did link to the page. It showed up in my reply as “fasteners”.

6.5 Diesel 97.5-2003 Main Bolts Discontinued

Actually I found them. Unique Diesel seems to have a lot of speciality items that can be hard to find. https://www.udgmtruck.com/Fasteners_c_24.html

6.5 Diesel 97.5-2003 Main Bolts Discontinued

I just bought a brand new Optimizer 2 months ago so I feel like someone still has to make them. But like you said it doesn’t seem like anyone has them for sale. Could switch to ARP main studs instead, those are available...

Need an aftermarket fuel filter for my M1009. Recommendations?

If I were to do it over again I’d go with this. It’s originally for the 90s 6.5’s. It’ll be easy to wire in so you’ll still have the water in fuel sensor and fuel heater capability. https://leroydiesel.com/products/ffm-w-ftb-mod-complete-kit/ I went with a Parker Racor 230r1210 which also does...

How to ID a head gasket issue

Well a little further research let me to my answer. Those holes in the fire deck are supposed to be mostly blocked by the head gasket and the main coolant flow occurs elsewhere. Found this nice writeup which describes coolant flow...

How to ID a head gasket issue

So I started taking apart my 6.2 to determine what went wrong with my rebuild and part out what I can. I thought a head gasket went on it based on the white smoke and terrible running, however after looking at the first side I pulled off I’m not actually sure what I’m looking for. But something...

Never thought I'd be posting about a turbo

I believe most people on a 6.2 tap into the plug above the oil cooler lines for the turbo oil supply. I’d assume it would also work teed off the sender but you might get low readings on your oil pressure gauge. Looking good!

    Oil Pressure Gauge Location

The new sender arrived today so I swapped that in. The gauge works better now, shows was seems to be a more accurate reading. It doesn’t exactly line up with my mechanical gauge (Autometer reading is lower) but it’s still is giving a realistic value. I bought a full replacement gauge/sender...

    Oil Pressure Gauge Location

Thanks for the info on the idiot light, I'm glad it comes on then vs at 0psi or almost 0. I just swapped in a 6.5 Optimizer so the motor is brand new. It does have the additional oil feed port on the front of the passenger side head which is where I've tapped in for my turbo. It only has 250...

    Oil Pressure Gauge Location

Interesting. Well sounds like the only way to know for sure if I have an issue is hooking up the mechanical gauge to the sending unit location. Not sure why I just didn’t do this in the first place. This morning I pulled my Autometer sender off and hooked in the gauge. After startup at idle the...
