It's been a while since I've updated you all. Lot's of small projects like adding an air quick connect off the wet tank - which took a bit more effort than I expected.
I've also made some good progress on larger projects - most specifically new seats for the cab and soundproofing/insulating...
Question for those of you with the OEM side mount hydraulic winches: How does cabling get rewound evenly across the width of the winch spool? I see that there are two guide wheels (one on the front and one on the back of the winch) that appear to slide horizontally on a rod. Are those guide...
Here is my 12v LMHC set-up. I have two 12v batteries wired in parallel and tucked into a marine battery box (I replaced all four of my truck batteries and took two of the "old" 12v batteries and used them for crane) that I just strap down to the bed of my truck. It makes it easy to either pull...
Have a 2003 M1078A1 with ~9,500 miles. Pulled both my drivelines to get balanced. Both splined drives had so much play that they couldn't balance them and had to replace both splined drives. Also two of the four u-joints were shot as well.
Work done was:
- Two new splined drives
- Both...
No, not many miles at all. As I learned since getting my truck the driveline angles on the A0 and A1 variants are steep which enable them to carry vibrations more so than “horizontal” or more horizontal drive lines and this can lead to the cracked engine housings at some of the noted stress...
Apparently the broken flange bolts can be a sign of out-of-balance drive-lines and a precursor to bigger headaches down the road. After replacing the flange bolts I pulled both of the drivelines and had them balanced and I also installed all new u-joints. When they balanced the drive shafts...
Has anyone been able to source locking T handles that fit the existing cut-out for the panel stowage doors on the co-drivers side of the truck? I tried searching the forums but didn’t have any success and have been poking around online but haven’t found any there as well that fit in the...
Drive lines installed. . . First one took about an hour and 15 minutes, the second one took 15 minutes - amazing how much I can learn from my mistakes. . .
Upgraded the drivers door handle today. Thanks to all the brave souls that have gone before me on this and posted youtube videos! It made my day much easier. The biggest headache for me was that my truck came stock with the door components switched sides and inverted so I had to create all...
First of all big thanks to @coachgeo for suggesting I check my drive lines. I pulled them last night and ran them down to a driveline shop first thing this morning. Turns out two of the four u-joints were bad and both of the splines and spline sleeves had so much play that they couldn’t get...
To pile onto this thread. I'm planning on adding "T" at the wet air tank where the elbow currently is before the pressure protection valve. My question to this group is whether anyone knows what size "T" I would need (my truck is not stored at my house). Is it just a 1/4" female NPT Tee?
I am diving into this same project and just took delivery of the following fabric: Marine Upholstery Fabric
I have not installed it yet so can't speak real world performance yet or how easy it is to work with.
I'll keep folks updated on how it goes. The big unknown that I need to investigate is how the PMDS, Battery Bank and Starter are all wired. I think for the ACR to work it needs have a direct connection to the from the battery to the starter; if the positive cable goes through the PMDS then it...
The crane was on the truck when I bought it. I can’t find any marking or brands on it so not sure who the manufacturer is. The prior owner welded some 4x4 (I think) steel square stock onto the bottom so it fits in any one of the four square crane receptacles on the bed of the truck. It’s 12v...
Used my M1078 to shuttle to the local Mt. biking trails over the weekend. It was a bit overkill for just one bike but looking forward to shuttling a bunch of bikes up some of the local singletrack.
I tried running some tubing down the fill port and only got about 3’ in before I hit something (either a screen or just a tight bend in the fill port) and couldn’t get the tubing down into the ATF reservoir.
So I had a chance to get up and do some work the truck that mostly went really well but I made one idiotic oops (more on that below but I don’t believe it is a huge issue).
I bit the bullet and ordered the aftermarket airbags for the cab. Installation was easier than expected an only took...
@wheelspinner Thanks for the guidance on this. I checked the -34 manuals and they have detail around rebuilding electrical components (starter, alt, etc.) but nothing in detail on the wiring. I think the military's solution in the event of faulty wiring in a harness was just to replace the...
