Nice find! And with Marine markings. [thumbzup]
My bride usually drives an M1009 with the M416 behind it to events. She named the 416 "Stalker" - she says "You can't see it, but you know its back there following you". :)
Cheers
Thanks!
Work done over a couple of weeks, but it's taking up real estate in Jason's (DrJay) shop that could be used for real revenue generating customers, so I need to get it out of there as soon as feasible. I don't want to impose too much on his generosity. ;)
Cheers
Next on the list was the stuck clutch, engaged all the time.
Getting at the clutch entails removing the entire power egg of engine, transmission, and front differential. Of course, this can't be done without removing all the front body sections too. :cautious:
The manner in which the body...
Ah, the Coot! Such a strange and interesting vehicle. I knew of them, but had not seen one in person until this one. I just couldn't leave it behind! I didn't realize until afterwards that the factory was in Cedar Park until it closed down - that is only a few miles from me.
Cheers
In kicking around ideas on what to do as a temporary solution for a fuel tank, one idea was a plastic boat tank up underneath the back where the regular tank goes. But plumbing/filling that would pose an issue since the filler and connections tend to be in the center of the top and, as it turns...
All three vehicles were in good shape, but all have their issues, and none had been run for several years.
The Mite had it's rear wheel drive shafts disconnected because it wouldn't roll otherwise, unknown problem.
The M715 had a bad 350 engine (I'll do a separate thread on that truck).
The Coot...
For some time I had been 'sorta looking' for an M151A2, as I wanted to add a small vehicle to the herd and I drove those in the Marines way back in the last century.
Back in November Roboskid sent me a link to an ad for several vehicles, and said "I know you want an M151, but look at the...
While rooting through my Mighty Mite image file, I found this one showing Mites in Vietnam.
It's not very clear, but does show how the markings were applied on the tail gate when the spare wasn't mounted there.
I can't make out the emblem between the USMC and the vehicle number, but it looks...
They didn't put jerry cans on the back as a general rule, but there may have been exceptions. I've not seen photos of any.
That said, it is your vehicle, do what makes you happy and don't worry about anyone else. If the holes are already there.... ;)
Original seats are apparently very...
Here is the back of mine.
I am about to swap out the small tail-lights lenses for the larger Gama Goat style ones, not completely original but much safer on the road.
Cheers
That's it!
The markings on the sides of the hood/bonnet and tailgate are 3" tall.
If you are going to put a spare tyre on the back, the markings move down to the bumper/fender, and are done in 2" letters and numerals.
I'll be working on mine again today (just got the engine power egg...
Agreed on the shocking prices.
Back when I paid $325 for an M1102, I thought I was being foolish, but I really wanted one. I was used to paying $125 for M105s and $175 for M101A2s.
I look at the prices that are being asked now and shake my head in wonder. There's no way I'd have all the...
Apparently at least some were used in Europe in 383 camo, though I've only seen a few photos of pickups.
The attached are a couple from an auction in Europe in 2006, and one of a truck belonging to a private owner in Germany who at the time said it was in "as bought" paint, according to my...
Mites, unfortunately, do not have the USMC 6-digit serial number stamped on the data plate, only the 4-digit manufacturers number.
Most M422A1s hood numbers were 30xxxx, the last four do not correspond to the manufacturers serial number.
If you want the original number, careful sanding down...
The vinyl stick-on letters were exceptions to the rule, and I only saw them on some Humvees in the motor pools. The issue the Marines had with those is that they peeled off rather readily. Several of the Humvees in son's motor pool had vestigal shadows from where the stickers used to be, the...
Another close race for the pennant! [thumbzup]
Congratulations to Mark and a well done to Serpico.
It sure isn't easy picking just one out of these vehicles, there were several I'd have liked to have voted for, but in the end I had to stick with my buddy Mkcoen.
It does seem a shame to only...
