What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I had 400ci engines added simple mods, cams, carbs, intakes, headers, ignition systems, 4 gear K30's, and they do drink the fuel under load. They can and do have some drag. Pulling 6 ton skidder plus trailer I would get 8mpg and hope for 10. But under mid throttle and plenty of torque left...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2019 - November VOTE HERE!

Wow 20 ton steam hammer. How old is that machine? DO you plan on using that Robo. Is that like a shaping metal hammer or more like for stamping forgings? Looking close it looks kind of mid century and very good condition. I bet that could make some horse shoes.

Rebuilding a 24v starter so it is 12v??? Possible or Not.

Good foundation, that is a good beginning. :p Now it is a decision to stay with 24 or switch to 12 volt. With the intention of staying with Military truck restoration or with modifying truck to have more creature comforts.

    Wiring harness question

Let me add that buying a truck for parts is another maybe cheaper alternative than buying parts singly. Just depends on your expectations.

    Wiring harness question

What is your long term goal for the truck? Are you trying to get back to Military issue or for your acceptable use? I ask because the parts are still available but it will not be to much longer that some things will not be available unless you want to pay a premium price, and some parts already...

Rebuilding a 24v starter so it is 12v??? Possible or Not.

Yes there are both 12 volt direct drive and gear reduction starters available from AC/Delco. I have an 82 K30 that I went to gear reduction starter, lighter and easier installation, and I am very pleased with it. I have probably 15 plus years on it now. Went to Chevrolet dealer and bought a...

    M1010 blinker issue

Right side directional works but not left. Check the all the running light bulb sockets for corrosion. Start front as water will get in there easiest. Then rear, the gaskets on the lenses will deteriorate with age, water gets trapped and the current is the magnet for water to collect and...

European scrap - salvage yards and parts suppliers

Robo I think you are doing a Great job at being proactive in getting a list compiled to help both the supplier and the buyer of parts. :goodjob: As many Jeeps that have been built and the many left in Europe I think that there is still unopened crates of them there. :carnac:

    European Member List

Very nice! Incredible to see mechanical equipment that was powered by either human or animal power. Most of the tools or equipment that was used is lost to the ages. It is fantastic that there are still people that saved and still can use such devices. In my part of Missouri we have several...

How to mount M996/M997 ambulance "shelter" on an M998?

Welcome from SE Missouri. How much can a ambulance shelter weigh? And have you checked to see how your HMMWV was outfitted in the beginning? It might have added capacity springs already.

Losing fuel prime many things done already, still won't run unless bled

Using air to blow out, clean out line of crap or clean fuel tank sock is ok to do, as long as you do not blow off the sock. Blowing air into fuel line towards tank will clear line. But blowing air into tank and pressurizing fuel line towards injection pump may show a leak. But you will have to...

Losing fuel prime many things done already, still won't run unless bled

The truck starts and runs for 5 seconds. First I would get some amps going into the battery. Put on a battery charger, with the continued cranking and not running, recharging battery is not happening. The ground cables and secondary grounds need, must be in a+++ condition at all times...

I have to replace one on my 1008A1 and seen this old post and thought about reviving it as I thought it was an excellent way of doing an installation on the cheap. Great Idea edpdx, I hope it does well.
