I wondered about doing this. I was curious if the bead on the back of the wheel would fall down in that position and fail to seat. I don't doubt you for a second, but the manual I read said to use a tire cage. (Page 9-9 of the -20). Often, I take things way too literally. Of course there are...
Ah, you imply something else that is important- Should I do the initial fill with the valve core removed? That way if I see something amiss, I can just flip the air chuck off the tire and it'll drain. If the valve core is installed, I'd have to risk putting body parts over the lock ring to...
A winter or two ago, I replaced all of the belts on my M813. It was very cold so the belts were stiff and probably contracted a bit. Now they've stretched out a bit and the slack should be taken up.
My concern is the water pump belt. If I loosen the pump to take up the slack, what are the...
Hang on, this might be a better plan-
The only thing stopping me from buying my own inflation cage is lack of a place to store it. Then I found this:
Folding tire cage
11.00x20 tires will definitely fit inside this thing. It's only 2 bars. Is it safe?
Question:
If I were crazy enough to attempt to replace an inner tube and tire and inflate it without a cage, using chains, what is the best way to secure the ends of the chain? A padlock? Grade 8 nut and bolt? I have a way to inflate the tire remotely. I have a locking air chuck and I can...
This is one of those things that has been covered in the forums that I really need to scribble down in a small notebook and keep in the map box in the cab. I'll be sitting on the roadside one day thinking "I know I read about this but I can't quite remember what to do..."
@Jeff MD When you say "take legal action" do you mean sue the government or just lobby the Delegates to change the law?
Your case written above is well thought out and seems on solid legal ground (I'm not a lawyer and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express either).
Do you think we're at a...
I agree. It's kind of the same thing as not requiring a 1940's Ford to have shoulder seatbelts because they were exempt at the time of manufacture. You're also right about the risk of "poking the bear" when getting the Fed involved.
Our state politicians seem fixated on pandemic nonsense. I'm...
Good grief, I thought many forum members had FMV's titled and on the road in Florida?
@FlameRed If I were you, I'd slap a set of original wheels on it, spray it in CARC to restore it to "original military configuration" and get on with life.
What does the air pressure gauge say? If it is within the normal range, the brakes are safe. The alarm is to call your attention to the gauge in case you're not looking, when a failure occurs. Sounds like a simple buzzer failure.
Scrounger (if you remember him) was a long haul guy for UPS for 20 years. I gained some insight from him about the industry and one of his major complaints is that the people administering tests are woefully ignorant and have never spent any time behind the wheel.
@simp5782 Dude, you are 10 of the most interesting people I know. You talk about pulling heads on the side of the road like it's no big deal. You customize your trucks with the ease of a kid swapping pieces on a Mr. Potato Head toy.
I am very inspired by your independence and self sufficiency.
It is stunning and disappointing to me that during a time of increasing scarcity when the need for truckers is acute, that the Federal government is increasing administrative hurdles and burdens to people who are trying to become commercial truck drivers. We already have a serious shortage of...
