    M35A3 tire changing to 395/85/20 part 1

I used a standard hammer style bead breaker to get the old 14.5 michelins off and a ratchet strap to turn the bead lock into a figure 8 shape for ease of installation. The first tire took 40 minutes the last took 15. The Goodyears ride better are quieter than the 14.5 original tires, I have...

M35A3 rear wheel bearing packing, with photos

The TMs are not very clear as to the packing procedures since the seal is not replaceable and the new bearings come prepacked with the seal installed I guessed them to not be repackable. That being said I repacked mine and was glad that I did since the outer seals had leaked diff oil into the...

M35A3 rear wheel bearing packing, with photos

A little bit of labor and about 1200 dollars will do all the wheels, its my plan if I ever have a bearing failure. The CTIS system is allready dissabled on mine.

M35A3 rear wheel bearing packing, with photos

I got the outer wheel seals at Erics surplus but they are available at many MV parts sales places, it seems all M35s use the same outer seal. It along with a small piece to cork gasket keeps the diff oil out of the outer bearing and hub center, although I am not sure the cork does much on the...

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

Mine were extremely tight to remove also, infact so tight that two of the lock washers were broken in two and a third was cracked. I think they tightened the easy to get to ones with an air impact not a torque wrench, I also think the torque spec drop is strange I think I will drive mine a...

    Understanding Automotive Electrical Systems

There are several good diesel truck level text books that are used in technical college programs that cover basic electricity and 24 volt systems. The school that I teach at uses a Delmar book called Heavy Duty Truck Systems that covers electrical and much more. Look for used ones on ebay or...

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

The 200 ft/lb torque spec came from the TM 9-2320-361-24-1 attached are images of the three pages including dissassembly, diagram, and reassembly. The torques are listed as 175 to 200 ft/lb. If the torque is 350 to 400 I will need to retorque them. Where did those numbers come from? I looked at...

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

The uppers are now done, the process was the same as far as the presswork was concerned. The uppers were more difficult to remove than the lowers but with the use of a good air hammer it worked and the job only took a few hours. One question, the Techical Manual that I have lists the torque...

    M35A3 Title Problems in Georgia

Anyway, the reason why I posted is in case anyone else in Ga. has trouble, which will happen, I'm sure. I wanted to give feedback. The answer is, have the local office manager call the Title Office in lieu of the help desk. And if you know of anyone who has gotten a title previously, get a copy...

    M35A3 Title Problems in Georgia

Congratulations on the titles, my local office in Acworth didn't even question or call the help desk, it took all of 15 minutes. My title came in the mail and is filed.

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

I have a nice place to work and lots of heavy duty tools that made the first 8 relatively easy. The uppers don't have as easy access and we will see, if I can snake them out without removing the leaf springs I'll consider myself lucky.

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

I only did the lower 4 rods yesterday and have not tried to remove the uppers yet. My plan is to use a really good air hammer, and I welded a socket that I ground down shorter to a steel bar to use on the nuts so that I will not have to remove the springs. If that doesn't work then I guess...

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

The last two photos are the inner and outer view of the new ends installed on the truck. I think that one is the left rear dog bone.

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

After reading a lot of threads about the damage they cause if they break I checked all of mine by prying on them. Low and behold even though they didn't look that bad one of them was separated. So I ordered a set of the ends from Memphis Equipment and today thought I would start out by...

    M35A3 TIRE Size

The MPT tire does have a different bead seating area due to it's ability to run with extremely low tire pressures and according to Continental is therefore unsutable for truck rim and that I do agree. The depth of the seating area on the multi purpose tire is shorter and will not fit correctly...
