I think I found the leak. Bubbles are coming from one of the fittings I used to install the Schrader valve. I'm going to tighten it up and see if that stops it.
I soaped this several times and now it's making bubbles! :cookoo:
Looking for some advice about another leak that's developed on a wheel I just took CTIS off of. I don't think it's the new elbow or fittings since they haven't bubbled in the leak test.
What I did do in CTIS valve removal is remove the counterweight, which involved removing a nut from the...
I think I found the next vehicle for your collection :p
The M39 and M809 5-tons should have the same rocker panels, so if you can find someone nearby with one of those that'll help.
What are people doing that causes water the infiltrate the brake system? I can see frequent off-roading being one thing, but for mostly paved driving I imagine infiltration would be pretty low. That's not to say the truck's previous owner might've done some fording, though. I think some...
I plan on running DOT5 in all my trucks. My dad runs DOT5 in all his trucks, though he's considering switching to DOT3 with his halftrack out of fear of messing up the motor with silicone brake fluid if the hydrovac malfunctions. Apparently that's not as big an issue with DOT3.
Do you remember if you manually pried the bead around the pipe stub, or did the bead just pop over it? My hope is that I could just jump on the rim again and have it just pop off with the bead popping over the pipe stub without getting caught on it and causing damage.
The first wheel I did I...
Is there risk damaging the exposed threaded part of the rim air tube dismounting the tire this way? I was thinking about ways to make this part of the tire dismount easier and can't help but think the tire bead may damage the air pipe where it gets bolted to the rim.
The last tire I did I...
Instead of completely replacing or redirecting the hose, I just cut it a little passed the ripped section and spliced in a stiff 1" ID rubber hose. It's a clear drainage hose I painted with Krylon Fusion flat black spray paint. I also cleaned up the air exhaust wye and painted it.
I chose...
You shall henceforth be known as Floridianson the Post Whore :ROFLMAO:
When I started this project I was really worried about how hard it would be to get the clamp ring nuts back onto the studs because they came off so hard! Then I watched a YouTube video which was linked from another topic...
Welcome to the club! I'd check with any nearby antique truck clubs for parts and/or advice about the old gas motor. There might be some folks here too that may be able to help :)
So I discovered a shortcoming with this - make sure your fasteners are the same height as the reference ones otherwise you might break stuff! The new ones I got from Big Mike's are about 1/4" taller than the ones that came with the truck, and I didn't realize it until I was far into the...
That's exactly my concern, so I pulled the clamp ring off the wheel last night to inspect the studs and o-ring. I used the torque multiplier to crank each of the nuts back about a third-turn, which started really stiff but got easier 3-5 cranks in, then used the DeWalt electric impact to back...
So I learned something today that makes me go aua
First, I now don't think the o-ring was leaking because the clamp ring wasn't tight enough. While reassembling the wheel, I discovered that the compression fitting going to the in-line filter for the CTIS valve split wide open on one flat while...
Hi! I'm sorry to hear about your M715 breaking down! I've always thought those were cool-looking trucks, but the camshaft in the stock motor is a known weakpoint. I think some export versions had better motors in them - maybe diesels?
Unfortunately that's all I know about the M715. If you...
Oh, my health isn't the issue. This is good exercise for me, even though I have no weight loss to show for it  So far it's taken all my free time to work on the wheels, free time that others feel should be spent elsewhere :p (They do have a point though sometimes!)
So it seems that...
Thank you very much for checking! It seems that I might not have my clamp ring on tight enough based on that and the air leak I have in my "done" wheel. I'll take more care in tightening the clamp ring with this wheel and make adjustments on the other one I already did and see what happens!

I ask that subject be discussed there as I'm waiting to see if someone will provide the measurement I'm looking for :)
After reading about the kid who got a clamp ring embedded in him after trying to service a FMTV rim at 50 psi or so, I'm definitely deflating the tire to zero before trying that (spoiler alert - he was killed pretty much instantly ☠).
@glcaines would you mind taking a measurement from the end...
