M101A2-A3. Best Overall Military Trailer Ever??

My best guess was it was built by Kasel Mfg Co. sometime after 1988 within the 1988-19?? contract period. It was rebuilt in 2004 by VSE Corp. The M116A3 data plate may indicate it was a generator trailer originally before rebuild by VSE and the mounting of a cargo trailer tub, OR someone just...

MV Road trip with a civilian chase vehicle

On two-lane roads, keep enough space between the vehicles so that cars have room to pass one vehicle at a time rather than trying to pass the entire convoy at once. This also gives the everyone room to stop when they get cut off.

    Greetings from Va

You've been registered as long as I have, but welcome anyway. Get a hitch setup like below to level out the trailer. https://www.etrailer.com/Pintle-Hitch/Tow-Ready/TR63011.html https://www.etrailer.com/Pintle-Hitch/B-and-W/BWPMHD14005.html If you do any off-road camping or hauling, you'll...

    My M101A3 & I got a question?

the A3 version came out in the mid-80s to be used with the new HMMWVs. The key clue is that they were fitted with the matching HMMWV tires.

Hi there, new member from Maine

Welcome from LA. Now you need a trailer to mount your generator and pull behind your M715, then you need a tow bar to tow your M715, then you need ..... And that's how the addiction starts.

    Ford CUCV

That base must have lost their copy of the USAF markings manual TO-36-1-3. After Jan 1992, USAF vehicles are only supposed to have license plates and no door markings.

    Yukon Men Show and CUCV

I loved it!!! Way to get 'er done and think outside the box. On another note, I really can't imagine what it takes to start a cold diesel engine when it's -30F. I have a hard enough time in LA starting my Massey Ferguson tractor when the temp dips to +35F.

    Air Brake Scare

Are some or all of the brake cans caged on the rear axles? If so, the truck will still roll freely when you have no air pressure instead of locking the rear brakes.

    Catastrophic Failures

My contribution: Dropped a valve in the #3 cylinder in a M818 that destroyed 2 pistons. Happened during a recovery of an empty M871 trailer and I had driven about 245 miles of the 355 mile round trip. See post #59 for photos...

"Categories of Risk", or "When Everything is Emphasized Nothing is Emphasized"

This in no way belittles the above efforts to increase safety awareness in our hobby. Everything we do has some degree of risk of injury or death associated with it. It's how you manage that risk that determines the probability of death or injury occurring at any specific time. If you have no...

    M923a2 recovery, TX to GA

Just saw you were down, then back up again. I was only an hour north of you. Glad you got it going again, and maybe you will miss the rain. The front is now along the I=65 road between Mobile and Montgomery, AL

    M923a2 recovery, TX to GA

Here's hoping he got out of BR ahead of the storm that hit around 0800 and can stay ahead of it. I'm afraid, though it will catch him somewhere, maybe between Mobile and Montgomery if he takes I-65. This radar view was at 1100hrs CT, I got 2-1/2 " of rain in 2 hours.

I like your flagpole setup, must be 18-20' ? Was it stable in the higher wind gusts?

    2017 LA rally

Sorry our schedules didn't jive and we missed each other. Hope the rain missed you today. Kids (both big and small) loved being able to touch and sit in the big trucks and Hmmwvs, unlike the Corvette Club whose members would probably have had heart attacks if a fruit drink or Philly cheese...

    2017 LA rally

Had fun Friday night at the park, and Saturday at the Air Show. We lined up 8 former MVs on the ramp in amongst the static display planes and helicopters. There were supposed to be around 150,000 attendees, and our lineup was as popular as the aircraft. My DSLR camera battery is toast, so I...
