Check the vent on the front passenger dummy glad hand. That is a vented cover.
If that vent gets plugged by a mud wasp, debris, etc. the system cannot exhaust properly and will lock up your rears as you describe. Happened to me once and now I always check for that on my pre-trip...
Thank you very much, @Mullaney ! I really appreciate it.
Yes. It has taken sweat, some blood donations, a lot of time, more money than I want to even think about but ZERO regrets or hesitation with any of it.
Here's a couple more recent Deuce porn pics (post-G177 tire swap) for your viewing...
She has come a long way in a short time.
Here are some additional things that I accomplished back in 2020/2021 on my old girl...with some before and after pics.
Remote brake reservoir - installed before the recovery drive to the farm:
Bed is solid but had a lot of normal surface rust from...
Now that I covered the finding and recovery part of my Deuce's story here are a few more "as found" pictures of my girl...
Lots of dirt, sand, grime, lichens, peeling paint, surface rust, missing parts and almost 70 years of use and abuse.
No wipers. She had been converted to electric wipers...
I'll kick-off the campaign...
Here's my old girl when I found her. Looking sad and forgotten, tires sinking in the sand, lichen-covered and badly peeling paint.
Having grown up in the Lansing, Michigan area I was ecstatic when I climbed into the cab and discovered she was actually a REO...

Awesome job on the install and figuring out how to adapt the kit to your truck! Looks great and you are obviously happy with the results.
But...I am cringing at all the holes you needed to drill into your hard top.... :cry:
YMMV...so to each his/her own and you know I am 100% behind you...
@ladoublet
A thimble is the type of lug nut used on the inner dual wheels of Budd-style rims. It is tightened with a square socket (13/16"). They should be available at any heavy-duty truck parts or commericial tire shop.
The thimble is threaded on the inside to accept the wheel stud and...
When I made the conversion to the 11.00R20 G177's on my old girl, I quickly got tired of trying to remember the old vs. new speed conversions as my focus needs be on driving and keeping an eye on the gauges and not on something that I can have easily calculated and displayed for me.
Originally...

It's a hike for me, but if no one closer chimes in I would be happy to try to get up there in a few days when my schedule allows and go over it if your buddy can stand to wait that long. I'd hate to see your buddy agree to drop ~30K for a truck without getting a neutral set of eyes...
@Dipstick
Thank you! I really appreciate it! It's been a lot of work and they've both come a long way despite the challenges of working on them in the open, on gravel and being at the mercy of Mother Nature.
Things get very stagnant during the winter for the girls other than to perform...
@Light in the Dark
Not sure why I am just seeing this post now...Sorry. I am actually only about 20 mins east of AA. I'd be happy to help you out, BUT my big trucks, equipment, trailers and my heavy gear are kept out at the farm, about 1.5 hours away from AA. So we may need to get creative...
Since we finally had some decent, dry weather, I was able to finish the swap over to 11.00R20 G177's on my old girl earlier today.
I love the "original" look and proportions of 9x20 NDT's on Deuces, but they are scary on wet pavement and some of them on my truck were getting long in the tooth...
@timgc78 when I changed out inner seals on my 923 I used a slide hammer and a similar piece from the kit like below:
It was the perfect size to pull the seals, but was too wide to insert it flat through the outer face of the seal. I held it with a pair of long nose pliers at an angle and...
Congrats @kendelrio on the win! Well Deserved! Bertha is great truck and you've done some really good work with her!
Thanks for the shout-out to my old girl!
Simple physics. Air at higher pressures can hold less moisture than air at lower pressures.
In our case, the water is forced out of the air as it is mechanically compressed. It is a natural by-product of compressing air.
It is unavoidable in our simple truck air compression systems.
