I bought this matched belt set for my Deuce in May, barely got to it a few days ago which is past sellers return date. So I have 2 nos belts that are 54 inches long and .66 in width. I’m assuming these are for a 5 ton or something of the sort. Any help identifying? I’d like to sell them for what...
Thanks for the reminder! Gotta order some shocks for it next! Tomorrow I want to find a block drain plug and flush the water jackets out before I fill it back up with good coolant.
Progress!! New mounts came in. Compared to old ones it’s pretty crazy. The front mounts had lowers being used which is why the motor is sitting so low. The mounting brackets look okay as does timing cover holes. Left side looks a little wallowed so I’m going to drill all out to 1/2 bolts to take...
Indeed it does Dave O, that old GMC is still parked about 16 miles east of Yuma. Some kid was throwing a big Detroit 2 stroker V8 in it last I heard. Amazingly after 10 years the Behr paint still looked better than any enamel job that I could’ve used.
And now ye shall watch my other favorite...
So I ended up getting a used chunk and good spindle from a closer member who gave me a good deal on them. Thanks again for the parts David, I wanted to get them pronto to keep it moving forward! My last 2 deuces sat due to lack of time or money so I really wanted to hit this truck hard and fix...
I got with Will Wagner (always saving my bacon it seems) and he might have some stuff. NDT I’ll let you know on the frame bracket. Chances are the bolt holes wouldn’t line up on one from another truck, my Miller thunderbolt 240 machine will have this one fixed right quick. Gonna be fun pounding...
The bad news continues! Was getting ready to do coolant hoses and belts when I noticed how low the motor was sitting. The top hose should be straight! The problem is a combination of trashed motor mounts, and the motor mount brackets being completely LOOSE Allowing the holes to get egged out...
My new tire hammer came in so I got my feet wet breaking down my first wheels. The first two took only 5 min each with soap. The others required soap and a light application of gasoline to the bead broke the bead right free. Little trick I learned from an old timer! Worked up one hell of a...
DOT line is nylon air brake tubing at NAPA. There’s a write up here on the forum on switching everything over. It’s a ton of work but well worth the time and it’s not too expensive.

Trying to converge threads. We were discussing the bumper numbers here https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/bumper-unit-markings.204169/
So the engine dates 1984. It was DRMOd in 93 with 54311 miles showing. Changed owners a few times, I know it was driven a lot just due to the civilian hitch...
Thanks for the info Guy!! These are the only tags on the truck. The cab is 7-16-0 . The motor shows 1984. The injection pump shows 1986 at least on the FDC.
The plot thickens as I have more info on the trucks previous owners as well as original 1993 SF97 DRMO paperwork. Instead of getting two...
Just working on my last wheel hub. Been hot and busy! I ordered locking hubs for the truck and located a new pumpkin close by.
I tracked down the previous owner who I have been emailing about the truck. It’s an OLD surplus truck from Fort Ord Army DRMO. Sold for $300 in 1993. It went through 2...
Great information! The truck came with a decontamination sprayer in it for chemical warfare. The bracket is bolted to the transmission cover.
So it’s safe to assume this truck was definitely used in desert storm operations? I mean the proof seems to be in the these bumper numbers.
It has no delineators however we know the bed was replaced sometime in service or after civi ownership as evidence by the solid CARC bed vs the rest of the vehicle which is old 24087 OD enamel peeling off with CARC over it. 😂
The 3rd Armored did not spend any time here in the states from what...
I found this. Seems probable it was in Germany in the 80s? I bought it from Will Wagner in LA and no idea where it was DRMOd from.
