Worse case scenario, figure $4.00 a loaded mile. If you work into someones route and they are empty, you may catch a deal but for planning purposes, factor in dedicated out of route shipping and you will still have some money in your pocket if you budget that way. If not running, that will up...
I have an MK 48/14 combo at my house that I attempted to take it its owners house today. The engine coolant temp gauge reads a steady 220 once warmed up and running down the road. The transmission oil temp gauge reads around 230 and creeps up to roughly 270 before I finally lose my nerve and...
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?53152-Successful-recovery-M818-towed-by-a-M35&highlight= I have done it foolishly in the past... I do not recommend it! Since I have owned the 5 ton, recovery is so much more comfortable!
I would recommend becoming friends with someone with an M939 base model truck. They often come on 11R20 Radials which the owners often ditch for some 14R20´s. You can find some pretty good deals. I know of one member on here who simply gave his nearly new G177´s to another member on here when...
If the idle is set slightly high and the truck has some suction line air leaks, it can do the same thing. I have never understood how that happens on a 250 Cummins. I would think introduction of air into the fuel at high idle would cause a stall. Now that I have my M923, it has throttle...
I'm not scared, my truck hangs out around big equipment as well. Let's go General Non-Sense!!! 1984 AM General M923A0 now A1 clone!!! I would nominate my CUCV as they seem to have momentum after last month but alas, Sarge is a previous winner of MV of the Month from May of last year!!!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but for some reason while the LVS's were still current trucks, the Marines deemed the MK-17 RBU as un-needed. At the time, they were not assigned a favorable demil code so we literally watched 100's of them get cut up for scrap removal about 5 years ago. I'm...
In the case of the truck I am storing, I think it is gauge or sending unit related. After getting it up to temp today on a drive, I checked the upper metal radiator hose with an infrared thermometer. Read 190 consistently there, 155 coming out of the radiator on the rear. Fan was engaged so I...
Picked this up for member ¨olewhisky¨ today. Anyone who buys one out of Albany, GA, let me know if you need recovery assistance. These are mostly runners. I was concerned about the 220 degree coolant temp but other than that, it did good today for the 25 mile trip home.
I don´t own one but I´m picking up and MK 48/14 combo in the morning for member ¨olewhisky¨. He´s joining the club, the ¨big P#%$# club¨!!! I put some pics up tomorrow evening.
As far as I know, the diff fluid in mine is from 1985 and probably had what the engineers considered the correct fluid as built. I have taken samples, they show no worries about swapping the oil out even though it´s almost 32 years old.
My M1028 almost does this. It pulls very hard to center when the front hubs are locked and your on a high traction surface. With the truck in neutral and the front end jacked up, both tires turn the same direction. Mine is one that the VIN starts out 1GHD which I've read often indicates a...
I just switch mine off when they are in the position I want them to be in. They driver´s side one normally wants to park towards the left while looking out and I prefer to stop it when it´s to the right.
If they are MRAP wheels, they will not bolt onto your Wrecker. You can however swap the tires onto your current rims. You will lose a little top speed but the 14´s are only supposed to be driven at 55 mph on the highway anyhow. Sure, lots of us exceed that but that doesn´t make it right. You...
