Not sure what to tell you. That has to be the cleanest HMMWV I have ever seen on GP. You won't know what it needs until you get it home. Looks like it's fresh out of a rebuild, so it may not need anything other than batteries. And if they are AGMs, you might be able to recover those too.
Girl is Connie Rod from PS Magazine.
Guyfang did you a huge solid by uploading all those TMs to the site!
Parts are available, they are the same as the 2AO16 engine.
The cradle has rollers on the aft end like a roll off dumpster. I can scoot my BEB around on pavement by picking up the cradle on the stern end with a 4000 lb forklift.
That compressor was widely used to air up tires in the field. Is the engine or compressor locked up? The engine is a military spec 1AO-8, one cylinder, aluminum, overhead valve, 8 cubic inches. I didn’t use my electric shop compressor for a year, it wouldn’t start, thought the motor was bad...
The mating surfaces are thick steel. Maybe try multiple screwdrivers. There is a huge area of silicone to rip apart, it will be difficult but not impossible.
The M821 had the roller and was used with the newer bridge erection boat in your picture. Stake sides used to transport Bailey Bridge pieces were removed.
Maybe the trans oil is overfulll, make sure it is one knockle below the fill hole. Drain if necessary and clean oil from the clutch using brake cleaner.
On a heavily laden deuce or on a start on a grade, I put the main transmission in second and drop the transfer to low. Next shift is transfer to high, then 3-4-5 in high. Works best for me.
I have never seen that split collar before on a Garwood winch. Looks to be a freewheel lockout function like you say. I think that is a 20,000 lb winch, are there any numbers on a data plate or stamped on a boss?
Crazy stuff happening with turn signals can be the lever being defective or bad grounds at the lamp units. Headlights that worked but now don’t could be burned out bulbs or grounds again.
Looks like all that needs to be done is to plug in the excite wire. There is no HMMWV specific alternator, the 60 amp units are all military standard. If your alternator does not function, double check that excite voltage is present at the wire when the ignition is on. It’s always possible...
The alternator does need an excite wire, but you need to tie it in with the ignitor feed, not the starter. If your alternator has a 12, gauge pigtail coming out of it, that is the excite wire which must be switched on when the ignition is on.
