Possible the rating is originating with the pocket on the bed too, not the crane itself. Or the winch. Hard to say. I just wouldn't stand under it.
I like the crane a lot but I really hate cranking it. A lot of times what I'll do is pull in parallel to my M1082 trailer and move stuff across and...
Best thing you can do is run it every so often at least until its warm, preferably with a load. In the commercial world (think onan, etc) for fixed installations the generator controllers are often set up to start the generators monthly, with the load. I'm speaking from experience mostly with...
Yeah. If you put the crane in one of the front pockets (instead of the rear where it is normally mounted) it has no problem reaching over the engine. We had a couple of beers and were debating whether or not this means the LMTV could self-replace its own engine. Although the stated weight on the...
That information is actually called out in the Allison operator's manual. It states pre-heating is required:
SAE 0W-20: -22 oF
Dexron III: -17
SAE 10W: -4
SAE 15W-40: 5
SAE 30: 32
SAE 40: 50
ha, no kidding. I started a thread a long while back wondering what that was for. Grease zerk to nowhere.
edit - I wonder how the TM could possibly fit in there! I have a printed copy and it's huge.
I 3D print also and one thing to watch out for is the UV resistance in the PLA. It's not always the same, not always good. And for something that will be on a dash. The housing looks great and if printed in the right plastic I have no doubt it will last a long time. It's amazing how strong the...
So for the person who was asking, Allison is going to tell you to use a C4 fluid if you call them (this is what they told me), for off-highway or severe-duty use, or, Transynd. Dexron 3 is an Allison C4 fluid but so are various heavy duty engine oils including Mobil. Also if you call an Allison...
I don't think the personal attack is really warranted, is it? The engine oil is fine. It's been fine in my truck and it's fine in the military trucks or they wouldn't be doing it - or having been doing it - as long as they have.
Plus there are real advantages like it's cheap and you only have...
If you take a passenger car, load it to gross, and drive it down a broken off-road track like a rally car, it'll break, probably sooner rather than later. Different environments, different stresses.
It's a reasonable question, since older military equipment sometimes listed different GVWR ratings based on on or off-road use. The M1078 only lists one weight, and we know that use is off-road, so it's logical to conclude that there is a higher on-road capacity than what has been stated. Which...
I didn't mean to diminish the value of the original military intercoms. My VIC-3 system is great, and interfaced with my radios. OP just looked like he wanted something between a mansion and a truck ;)
With a VIC-3 or even VIC-1 you can just put stations in the habitat as well. But since your setup is so... civilized, I'd probably look at aircraft intercoms as well. You'll get to the same place, but the equipment will be daintier, and there are a lot of panel mount solutions.
My LMTV is...
That's the Bose VIC-3 headset. It uses a regular U-229 plug, although if you don't have a VIC-3 my understanding is it won't get powered, so the active noise cancellation won't work. I think it works otherwise though, although honestly I can't remember if I ever tried them with a radio or a...
