transmission oil cooler hose: torque for the jam nut on 90 degree fitting

The hairline cracks suprman mentioned happened to me on a big trip to Seattle. Hydro shop in Flagstaff cut the end off, grafted another one on with a sort of female to female splice, and I was back on the road same day. I have no idea what torque they used, I think the german gutentight...

    CTIS keypad

So you know while you are in there poking around, I tore the dead one I had open to see if the diagnostic pins on the amphenol were wired. They weren't in my example, which is too bad because the software to program / diagnose them seemed to be obtainable from eaton. Are they wired on yours? I...

Hydr Manifold Ctrl:24P has 2 lines going to same outlet on rear; Correct Routing Dia?

The way I did this is pumped fluid down the line and looked to see which way the rams went. 50/50 chance right. You can put the other end in a bucket to catch the return oil. Note that the returns are common inside the manifold so if you don't plug them they'll leak. While you are in there I...

    LMTV SRW intended use

So I don't claim to know how well this scales to MVs, but in the Jeep world we have a rule of thumb that goes something like this. Taking the actual weight (not the gross weight, not the curb weight), you need a pulling force equal to: 1/10th: level pavement 1/3rd: soft level ground, grass...

So, what's the one thing you'd change?

Image upload sucking less, and maybe image gallery support, so I could upload galleries without taking heat for posting flickr links that might one day rot...

    CTIS keypad

I've heard from other members on SS that they opened theirs and there was no potting. The one I opened was on the truck when I got it but I cannot be certain it was original to 1992. I ultimately replaced it with NOS, and I have not opened that one.

Acetone maybe? I read that's effective against some kinds of potting.

    CTIS keypad

I don't laugh at potting, I tried to get it out of a CTIS module (and eventually did after making a huge mess). On the module I had, it was a sort of hard jelly if that makes sense, like a silicone, and it was a deep red / purple color. When you cut or chipped at it, it came away in crumbles...

Bought a HEMTT in NC on impulse. Advice wanted

I can see the CL ad already, "want to swap HEMTT, clean title, runs good, for Pangiale V4S" Also, we really need pictures...

Bought a HEMTT in NC on impulse. Advice wanted

Well one thing you can do is call a wrecker to move it to a yard (like a truck stop, etc). If you call around you can probably find a place - one way to do that is to call the wrecker and then ask where it can go. Often they'll know a place or the wrecker himself will have a yard. There'll be a...

Bought a HEMTT in NC on impulse. Advice wanted

Others with more experience might chime in but part of the issue there I believe is they have to go on a RGN or similar trailer due to the height of the truck. It can be more trouble and cost sometimes vs. just a regular flatbed. The truck also needs to work in order to load and unload it or you...

Tire shops that will install run flats on 395's / Hutchinson split rim

When I said it's worth learning how to do in the field, I meant the tire change in general. That may not be what OP asked, but that is what I meant. And I do think it's reasonable to know how to do it if only to tell the tire guy or the roadside guy how to do it later. I did not mean to imply...

Bought a HEMTT in NC on impulse. Advice wanted

... these things happen. You didn't mention your mechanical skill level, but my general feeling is don't self recover a truck in an unknown state without thorough fluid checks especially in the driveline, etc. You can learn how or take someone experienced, the latter being better. Have the funds...

Tire shops that will install run flats on 395's / Hutchinson split rim

ok so I googled around and I see that there are different kinds of run flats. There are the kind that seem to be one piece and I can see how you'd need some kind of crazy setup to get that in. And there are kinds that are split. I found a picture of the style I am linking here - mine were black...

Tire shops that will install run flats on 395's / Hutchinson split rim

Shop is in phoenix off I-17. If you are hoping to call to fact-check me, they might remember the army truck guy. It was a year or two ago. Maybe I can find copies of my receipts but their security cam footage has probably expired if that's what you were hoping for... Yes, 395 tires on R20 rims...

Tire shops that will install run flats on 395's / Hutchinson split rim

... also I can't help but feel this thread is getting oddly antagonistic. So let me tell you how this went, for me, personally, this one time. You all can just like - take this for what its' worth, which maybe is nothing at all. I bought a bunch of wheels because I wanted the goodyears, like a...
