My 003a has always needed some preheat to start, even in the summertime. Lately, I have run the main pump until I hear the return fuel dribbling into the tank, then crank. If I don't start to see white puffs within about 5" from the exhaust, I will hit the heat again. I have never tested my...
If the engine is not getting faster as the throttle is pulled out, check on the flywheel end. You may need to remove some sheet metal to see. My 003a started doing that and a spring that attaches to a lever up there had slipped down, probably because I was wrongly slowing the engine prior to...
I have both a M17 and two MX 2 steam/hot water cleaners. The M17 is much, much easier to get and keep going than the MX2. The problem with the MX 2 is that it has so many interlocks, it gets tricky to operate. Usually at least once each time while using it, it will start to run away and I...
GuyFang,
We also get ice in NC. Dec of 2002, I had returned home after retiring from the Air Force in Oct. We did not have power for 5 days. That morning, you could stand outside and hear a pine tree snap about every 20". It was 1/2"-3/4" thick. That is the exact reason I now have 3 MEP...
I having a similar problem on my MEP-804a generator while trying to start three FDECU-5 heat pumps. When I got the first FDECU, I was able to make cold and hot air even though it says the heat pump needs 60 amps of 208V and the 804a only does around 52 amps. I was having some problems with the...
It does appear that yours is the unmodified type. I have TM 3-4230-228-10 in the box which is up at the shop. I will try to remember to grab it Saturday. Behind the round air cleaner on the side of your engine looks like the carb. On mine, there is a butterfly valve there which is the...
I don't know what you mean by "float size adjuster bulb". Mine did come with an orange float ball to hold up the end of the intake off the bottom if used in a pond or lake. Did you get one of the flexible tanks in the pile of goodies? If you search decontaminating apparatus, you should find my...
Mine had been modified by the military to burn diesel. It had a metal yellow tag attached to both fuel lines (burner and engine) saying to use JP5/8. The TM that came with the unit still said to use gasoline but the pictures of the engine did not match reality. I think the Army was trying to...
When I got my 804A, it had only 46 hours. Much like you, it would not turn the engine over in start. Mine would also turn over using the dead crank switch. I started tapping on things including the starting solenoid (not sure about an 802) and eventually began to get some clicks at start...
That plug (or cap as I would call it) looks like the ones on our John Deere Chinese replacement water pump. They last about two years before they leak. I get mine in the "help" section at Advance.

What if you made an adapter out of aluminum for the smaller gauge? You could use the original mounting holes to mount the adapter on the backside of the panel.

I met Jim Henry today at the Denton 4 Jly Southeastern Threshers meet. I was in the engine/vendor area and asking if someone had just the cap for a jerry can and Jim was pointed out to me. We got to talking and at first, he just seemed to be selling tires out of the back of a box truck but...
The MEP 804A in stock form is only made to produce three phase power. This does not mean that single phase is not available. TM 9-6115-643-10 shows in Table 1 on pg 0005-4 how to do it. I remember reading somewhere in a TM about the 804A where it also talks about getting single phase power...
I ran the FDECU-5 some more today and it decided to actually almost work correctly! I tried during the week and it was doing the usual start for .5" and then kick out the 804a gen breaker. Today I thought it was going to do that again when it kicked off after running for three minutes until...
Help, My FDECU-5 heat pump is bipolar
I bought a FDECU-5 (field deployable environmental control unit) which is a 3 or 5 ton heat pump recently from GL for $120 all in. I have been looking for something to heat and cool the room above my attached garage which is about 25' square. I left it...
There is a similar switch on my MX-2 steam/hot water cleaners. They were made by Bremas which I think is Italian. I actually took one apart and got it back together but can't remember how so any tips are welcome. I had been trying dielectric grease to make things stay in place better but ran...
This may not be applicable in your situation but I will relay some information learned from water in the oil on our JD 2030 tractor which is around 60 hp (1972 model). The tractor dealership said that the coolant would get tiny bubbles in it and they would pop on the wet side of the cylinder...
