Got two corner assemblies finished today with the help of 98G who brought his arc welder. Welded up and now ready to be welded to the I-beam. For that part though I’ll be welding them together on top of the shipping container so I know for a fact that it will fit when I’m finished. Last thing I...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

I wish that were the case, but I never had the valve cover off before at all so I have no idea how those two bolts came loose in the first place. But I did check them all again, just in case. I also don’t thread bolts all the way in for that same reason. That way, if I get pulled away from task...

Adventure Driven's photos and videos of their M1079

How many batteries are you using for storage? I’ve got 6 GC2 210Ah batteries that I’m using and still want to get 2 more.

Finally got the valve cover ready to powder coat the new color. The turbo is with Dormant Red and clear, I wasn’t happy with the color so I cut it with 50% gloss red. First test piece with the 50% cut and compared to the turbo. This color makes me much happier. The turbo turned very...

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

Lol yeah, just look on quickserve! 41ft-lbs for those two bolts that came loose on me, now I just need to do the valve lash on the motor and I can put the cover back in place. Of course it took me half the day just to find my 10mm 12pt socket lol

So who has bumped the power on a 6CTA cummins

That was the whole reason I added a little more excess fuel in the pump, other than that it has been a good truck. I was talking to BD Diesel to look into a turbo replacement that would spool faster and still have the same HP levels. I’m not looking to hot dog my truck, I just want it to spool a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I’m hoping that this only a top end issue, but with my luck I better check the oil at least. I did manage to get one drum off while I was changing the tires, but that was purely by luck and not because I was trying to. When I replace the front boots I’ll take the time to inspect everything up...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I haven’t seen any tags on the motor yet, but to me that doesn’t mean much. Yeah I don’t like it when it’s below 40 lol

6CTA8.3 engine rebuild for Sur Móvil

The bent pushrod and Will Wagner’s advice is what has me prompted to drop the pan and look for chunks, hopefully I find none. I’ll PM you with Cummins PNs that I’ll need if you think you can get them cheaper. Fortunately I just got some paint markers so I can use those. If I disassemble all the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Only 15k/725hrs if the gauges and engine are original. Temps have only gotten to 16 at the lowest so far so I doubt that temps are the culprit. No idea about factory or reman on the motor. All I know is that Jeff (CSM Davis) said it was a Red River Rebuild when I stopped by his place to get the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Nope, no abnormal working conditions. I thought I had it fixed after replacing the injectors, so much for that idea. Now I need to figure out where to get new parts without breaking the bank. I still can’t believe that Cummins wants $422 just for the upper gasket set on this motor.

6CTA8.3 engine rebuild for Sur Móvil

Yeah tell me about it, story of my life lol. The valve cover bolt was still tight but the two bolts that hold then entire rocker arm assembly had come loose. I think it was those two loose bolts that broke the pivot shaft but I’m goin to drop the oil pan just to be sure, last thing I want to do...

6CTA8.3 engine rebuild for Sur Móvil

Got the bolts replaced, they were M8s not M6s. Got it running, still had a slight miss, but as I let it warm up it went away. By the time I drove into town (12mi) she was running good again. Did a couple things in town and started on my way back. Within a mile there was a ‘crack’ and then she...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Took my valve off to find nasty problem on the #5 cylinder. Pivot shaft broken, top clamp half broken, lower clamp half gouged, one rocker arm gouged, and one bent push rod. I’ll have to take the oil pan off and check for chunks of metal to be sure the tappet wasn’t damaged as well.

Coolant Heater Diesel Fired M939 and others

Found this on eBay, hope it helps. I think I’ll buy one of those for my truck, but I won’t get it from this seller though.

M939 as a welder power supply?

    LMAO! I’m stealing that pic!

M939 as a welder power supply?

This is the welding rod I have for the ISO frame. 1/8” for the majority of it, 5/32” for the really thick stuff.

M939 as a welder power supply?

I pulled the welder out and was going to fix the coolant pipe, but I found a rusted rats nest of wire inside the spool gun instead. Guess it’ll have to wait till new wire shows up before I can test it on the truck.
