Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

Yup, already on the todo list that is long than the truck lol

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

I’ll look into that, hadn’t thought of that - best of both worlds. That is the kind of places I’ll be going to, only the southern version instead so Patagonia. Very remote and little to no help if you find yourself in trouble of any kind. That is why I was looking solutions that don’t involve...

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

I would like to have the original system there and functional, for the same reason tcat said - just in case, I just don’t want to rely on it as my only cold weather solution. So far I’m thinking block heater with the arctic kit as an alternate main solution. With OEM ether canisters, silicone...

M939 as a welder power supply?

    Lol so true!

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

I live at 5800ft, while it is not extreme I have noticed the drop in power vs when I’m at lower elevations with it. There is one place that I’d like to go that sits at 16,000ft so having this issue worked out beforehand would be ideal. Mine idles at about 8-900 because I still haven’t...

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

I use that truck a lot, just doesn’t help if she won’t start first lol I’ve been thinkin of doin the 4 6V batteries already because of that reason, but since the truck came with two brand new batteries that are still less than a year old I figure that can wait till they’re toast or pretty...

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

Sounds exactly like what the arctic kits do for the older engines, sounds like something to try when all else fails since the air filter cover is such a PITA to get on and off the truck. Ive just replaced my injectors and still dealing with an intermittent miss that I’m hoping is just air...

M939 as a welder power supply?

I bought them for use after the RV use of the truck is finished and I could be hauling loaded containers across unmaintained roads in SA. I’d rather it be the steel that fails instead of a weld. At least that I have no control over after original material choice. All of the material for the...

M939 as a welder power supply?

If memory serves correctly, I’ve got 5/32” and 1/8” both. I just can’t remember which one I bought two boxes of. Hopefully those three boxes will be enough to finish it all. John made mention of it to me already, made a work trade proposition too, we shall see if his trip to PHX pans out to...

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

Lol yeah, I can only hope that I’ll have friends to help out with that (along with DHL) if something goes really bad and I need more spare parts than I’ll already be taking with me. I reckon I could do that if they’re not to expensive, just not how how each country would be on customs...

M939 as a welder power supply?

I already own one of those welders, and they work great even for thick stuff because they use pure DC from batteries and can deliver 350A. I would use it, but I don’t think I have enough cover gas and besides I’d have to get a few rolls of .040 or .045 wire, which is gonna be more expensive than...

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

Thanks for all the quick replies guys! I know that I will be in the most remote areas of South America so relying on truck stops just isn’t an option. There is a “no man’s land” between Chile and Argentina that I know I’ll be going through where both border stations say that you’ll be on your...

M939 as a welder power supply?

Has anyon used their trucks to weld? I found myself in immediate need to change plans on how I was going to weld my ISO frame together so that it can be mounted to the truck. I think I might still have my old 90A HF welder around here somewhere if I absolutely have to go that route, assuming I...

    Silent+Cordless 24v/10a Battery Charger

That’s exactly what I’m planning on doing with my truck sinc I’ll be over-landing with it. Of course I’ll have more than one panel though since it’ll also be powering the main RV batteries too.

Non-ether cold weather starting solutions for the 8.3?

What do you guys use to start your trucks in the cold? I don’t want to be dependent on finding ether for the winter where ever I happen to be on the globe. I really wish we had glow plugs on these motors, but retrofitting them in I suspect would be prohibitively expensive. Even the heater grid...

    Compression test(er) for 6CTA8.3?

Thanks for the link, is it held in place the same way as the injectors? The picture is really fuzzy so I can’t tell for sure. Fortunately I just replaced my injectors so they won’t be too difficult to pull out again, but I’m still thinking about making the slide hammer with the M14 nut on the end.

    Compression test(er) for 6CTA8.3?

I do have the same symptoms as idbankrman claimed in the link that simp replied with, but I wasn’t asking because of that directly. I was asking so that I could check it now and record the results and then later when I felt that I really did have a propblem I would have some older numbers to...

    M934a2 bhtrv

Finally got all the ‘new’ tires mounted, with the exception of the spare, and I hope that the motor is fixed. I guess I’ll find out with time though. There is an intermittent miss so I’m hoping that it’s just air in the fuel system from replacing all of the injectors. Tried mounting the...

    Compression test(er) for 6CTA8.3?

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can test the compression on this motor? Or if they already have some sort of tester for this purpose? Since I couldn’t borescope the motor I thought I’d try a compression test to evaluate the health of the motor as far the pistons/rings/liners goes.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Yes lol and it makes life much easier too! “Daylight saving time: Only the government would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.” -- Anonymous
