PETLAS Has anyone tried these tires?

If you have 17 inch rims Yokohama Geolandar MT are available in 37x12.5. Mine are under a M1008. I had to hand mount them because I didn't have a running truck at the time. They're not balanced and are still smooth at 65mph. I have load range D tires. They're made in Japan. I can tell they're...

    Ctis on a m35a3

The price tag is a bit of a shocker. It's $200 for an 8oz tube but that is a lifetime supply for normal people. I started buying a tube for every propeller shaft seal job which is close to $20k. It takes just over 4oz which means I can't use a tube twice 😉

    Ctis on a m35a3

I ask because I used to have a lot of pneumatic controls in my fleet. Many valves would fail every 2-5 years. The crews were using whatever white grease they had which was usually white lithium. They were supposed to be using silicone on PTFE grease. The petroleum greases caused premature...

    Ctis on a m35a3

I see so much complaint about the CTIS systems. Is it typically the controllers that fail or the valves and seals? If it's the valves and seals what are you using as a lubricant?

    Keeping a M1009 alive

If you got boxes of glow plugs someone was probably chasing glow plugs failures with junk glow plugs. I strongly suggest the 60G plugs as it is rare for them to swell during a failure. Does the truck have a ballast resistor on the firewall? The starter and/or starter solenoid should have a tag...

    Keeping a M1009 alive

Look closely at the battery trays. There are little metal tabs in the bottom that fit the group 31 batteries to keep them from sliding around. I also believe the trays already have blind welded for 1/4 rod for the hold down. You can use the universal hold downs at the auto parts store with these...

    Keeping a M1009 alive

The 12/24v system works fine. Don't mess around with a 12v conversion. The stock battery trays work with group 27 and group 31 batteries if you're looking for a less expensive option. If the low coolant light is flashing check for leaking head gaskets by running the engine with the radiator...

Never thought I'd be posting about a turbo

The OEM mounts are no longer available. The aftermarket rubber mounts sag and go metal to metal in 6 months. With that said, the poly mounts transfer less noise than any available rubber mounts. FYI, there are two sizes of poly mounts. Make sure you get the big size. I believe 3.1121 is the...

    1984 6.2 Oil

Wix is the better filter for these engines and is readily available. I don't see any reason not to run one. Don't run Baldwin oil filters in Cat 3500 series engines.

Never thought I'd be posting about a turbo

I put a direct mount dipstick on my transmission which eliminates the tube. This may give more room for the downpipe...

    1984 6.2 Oil

I suggest you read about API service grades. They typically supercede each other. The only exception is the most current generation of oils. Chevron Delo 400 is available in a SDE and XLE formula. The SDE is for 2017 and earlier engines while the XLE is for later.

FLU419 Diesel engine does not shut off

Detroit Diesel used to have a shutdown air damper for stuck rack situations due to an injector getting stuck. Perhaps you should consider the same? https://www.amot.com/en/4262c-air-shut-off-valve/ I converted all of my Detroits to spring actuated racks so I could get rid of the dampers.

    M1009 Little Red Riding Hood.

The tech manual has a paint by numbers scheme for the pattern.

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

This is a 6.5 with a 6.2 IP but this is the level of smoke you should expect. https://photos.app.goo.gl/VVXyvRNMJYMkndBe7

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

The 6.2 shouldn't make any smoke at all once the glow plug cycle ends. If you had a mechanical problem I would expect it to get louder as you rev the engine. It doesn't. I feel that points towards an injection pump issue.

    M1009 Little Red Riding Hood.

We have had problems with Class 125 fittings failing on the air compressors on my boats. I make sure to buy class 150 fittings for our air systems.

    Brake upgrade options

Convert to DOT 3 or 4 fluid. I haven't done this. I did rebuild my calipers and had a clear waterline on the pistons. Or, remember to turn your calipers upside-down when you flush the fluid. With that said, I've never heard of any complaints with the brakes on the civy trucks. It's a system...

    Dark Seas M1008 Project

I had a throttle shaft seal issue that led me to attempt to rebuild my own IP. It should be possible. All of the adjustable pieces can be removed and reinstalled without changing the adjustments, or so I thought. This was a good running pump. I would not attempt to reseal a poorly running pump...
