Need to physically have the alternator to finalize the dimensions of it, which will drive the protruding post heights, but all the pieces seem easily machinable or cut-able, and weldable. I left 1/16" clearance for welds. Will 3d print it first, after I physically have the alternator, to check...
Jumping back into this project after a too-warm-to-work-outside-summer.
Ordered a 250A 24V Brushless J180 Long Hinge commercial alternator (Leece Nevill BLD4102M Idle Pro X), 1x Leece Neville Pulley (P/N K176105263S), and 1x Generic Pulley P/N 247750). Hopefully they ship early next week, but...
I also made a slight "mod" to the protective plate for the air tank drain valves. While using an abrasive paint and rust stripping wheel to clean the surface rust off of it, I noticed quite a bit of buildup in the corners. I drilled a 1/4" drain hole in each corner and deburred/filed it smooth...
Was able to get a bit of small tasks done in the evenings this week. The original tank strap rubber isolators were crumbling where (I assume) battery acid leaked. Pretty much corresponded to where the CARC was broken/cracked/bubbling on the tanks. The paint on these bands was some kind of...
Edit: Just got to the part in your YT video where you explain it is for just that ! Video @ 11:24
@Xengineguy is this slotted bolt to help clear debris from the 3/8-16 holes the original hub bolts are in ? If so, much appreciated !
Getting smart on EcoHub installation (reading directions...
I managed to get some work done on stripping and painting the tanks and brackets. And then stripping and painting the brackets. And then stripping and painting the brackets. Turns out spraying rustoleum from the handheld airless HVLP sprayer (which has been awesome for small house reno...
Seems like the tanks are only tied together at the front and rear of the truck; there is no tank to tank transfer on the A0.5/A1. As best I can tell the front brake hose routing is the same on the A0 and A1... but wont find out for sure until I pull the bed... which is after battery box mod...
My A0.5 does not have that Air Over Pump remote valve on the forward service tank, so maybe that line is the little one that comes off the wet output ?
Appreciate your posts here, here, and this video.
My forward tank looks similar to the end of your video, except it looks like my service...
Thank you for bringing this to my attention ! I just went outside and checked. Despite mine being an early "A1" mine is plumbed differently than the A0. It has the air dryer/unloader going in to the front port, and the rear port to the service tanks (along with another thin line I did not...
Over the last few days I've completely removed the battery box. What started as replacing the dry rotted rubber for the tank bands with some 1/16"x1"x20' Solid Neoprene Rubber Strip Roll led to finding cracked paint and raw metal, which is not really fixable (sandable + paintable) without...
Thanks, I will ! I like how on their website they list the pros and cons of themselves vs sendcutsend and 2 others... but fairly. Makes me want to give them my small, paltry amount of business.
They do say that sendcutsend is more capable for things that I don't care about, but also better...
I'm sure this all seems like over-planning, but I find planning kind of cathartic. Through focus on the task to the exclusion of stressors and also knowing I have a plan ahead of time...
I am definitely worried about my voltage regulator having issues with over-voltage spikes. I need to...
Could the OEM alternators be this T1 RH swung mount style ? If so, this 24v 155A alternator might fit a nice middle ground for $525. I tried to measure the bottom wings of mine, while still mounted... not terribly successful but seemed like 6", shorter than the 7.1" of this diagram ...
Small progress today but finished with what I believe to be is all of the drilling. Base plate, rear plate, and new holes in the battery box to secure it with.
8 new holes to mount the unistrut to through the baseplate so there are just as many of the same bolts holding down my try as OEM...
Got the brackets that I designed and ordered from sendcutsend delivered today.
Rear bracket for mounting all the busbars and breakers to:
And the mount for the vanner which supports the mounts for Dual Circuit Battery Switch and future ML-RBS (Remote Battery Switch) for the winch...
Sure thing ! I'm trucking along with with you, putting a disconnect in my truck too. I just got the mount for the Blue Sea Systems 5510E e-Series Dual Circuit Battery Switch delivered today.
If you look at Post #3 in my build thread (which I just started) I made a diagram of how the stock...
I actually maintain a rather lengthy acronym post on coloradofans for this exact reason and try not to use too many, or at least do the whole: Acronym Rich Environment (ARE) thing to spell out an acronym.
I've found forum search functions to really only be helpful when I want posts from a...
Our aircraft pubs have a glossary in the back, acronym soup cover to cover. haha. Occasionally they'll slip out...
I generally try and define them first before using them. My fault. Had ELA on the mind from an ongoing aircraft integration.
I'll admit the interchangeable IAH and AIH usage on...
 I like yours better, but Electrical Load Analysis.
I have those same concerns... The 28SI alternator is 154mm/6" in diameter vs the 7.75" advertised for yours... which doesn't say if it includes the mounting brackets or just the body.
I might end up trying to CAD design an alternator...
