RE: Re: RE: pump
Accumulator update. System works but at 3.75qt there is not enough cap to fill completely drained down filters and galleries (a tandem accumulator would ). It does reduce oil gauge lag from 22 sec to 3 or 5sec. The remote air tank increases capacity but leaves no room in the...
extended idling can allow oil past the seal. That can be considered acceptable , if not normal. You might have see leakage when sitting that will have little effect when running. Make sure the drain is clear (and the crankcase isn't full of fuel). The exhuast might take a hard pull to burn out...
Use the recommended fluid. Hyd repairs can be expensive. I use 3 types of hyd. fluid. One cost twice as much as the AW32 stuff. Can't remember what it is called right now. Sold as tractor/transmission fluid. This fluid has a long list of factory approved specs. on the pail, like the Hy-Tran-5...
RE: Re: RE: Re: bypassing the FDC
Lee, Yes, I retimed the IP to 20*. Cranetruck's piece in MVMag made the job easy.
Whistlingdeuce, Bypassing FDC, and adjusting fuel delivery rate, are both easy tasks. I think a pyrometer is a must have, or at least run one for a while. As Lee points out the...
RE: Re: bypassing the FDC
I disabled it.Took 2 1/3 turns to get the boost down to what it was before(12psi at 2500). This is up 4-6 psi from stock LDT, from what I have read. Had turned down another 1-1/2(?)earlier, from where it was set as a LD. For bypass I had to replace the plastic line...
I have the blue point ones, like above. They don't always work well. Most are now stripped. One thing to keep in mind once the tension is off the treads it often turns easier, sometimes (often) finger tight. Bottomed out and cross threaded are exceptions. I have good luck with Lloyd S's...
RE: Re: How bad is that northern winter weather on vehciles?
I'd suggest judging frame condition by amount of scale not the surface color. Southern PA gets a lot less snow[salt] than northern PA. Southern cars may get driven into rust belt [salt], or may have lived there before. One drive in...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: 6 Wheels vs. 10 WheelsthereT
Thanks all. I was planning to go with 11:00x20 duals come re-shoe. Just needed to do some research first.
I just did a quick search on diameters :40" for 900x20's and 43" for 1100x20's...
RE: Re: RE: 6 Wheels vs. 10 WheelsthereT
Duals have a few things to offer like an increased safety margin as there is redundancy. This may be desirable for certain vehicles like the loaded street vehicle where tire stress is high, failure may mean a crash and the lower 'gearing' is preferred...
Lot of good suggestions above. I could offer a few more.
Make sure it is well maintained.
Correct air pressure in tires, or the max allowed.
Adjusted brakes so they don't drag.
Drive smoothly,avoid braking.
A working thermostat.
Quality lubes.
Remove extra weight.
Reduce idling time.
Remove...
If the core slides out have a look. Motorcycles get a very light coating grease on lower 2/3, core out. Lube near the gauge can cause problems on some, working back into gauge. Maybe study the gauge for a seal. If there is one, contamination should not be an issue. Not a lot of lube needed...
Yes. It doesn't have to be super tight.
After adding a 'D' turbo to an LD I had to turn the fuel down. The 12psi at 2500rpm I now use would seem, from those who have posted here, to be higher than the LDT factory setting. At this level I can also get it too hot (over 1000*F post-T) towing a...
Thanks,Will, I was wondering what you had to say. 2 seems like a lot. Do you remember any details? Excessive EGT damage the probe? Cheap probe? Metal fatique? If it was the former, and the probe got too hot, the gauge should have indicated it. Perhaps the driver is to blame???
Pre-T probe in a...
