I am busy today so I will re-post the following one of my posts from July 2016.
This is my last contribution as to why I prefer the Mack ENDT-673 5-ton over the Cummins NHC 250.
I have a 40-mile course over which I like to run a truck through its paces. It starts at Massie’s Corner at the...
Both our machines went through a rebuild in Sagama, Japan in 1975. Which means, we both have the overdrive Spicer transmissions, final ENDT improved engines, and the M809 style steering systems. My unit was built in Reading PA, and delivered directly to Vietnam in October 1965....thus no...
Here is my 1965 M54A1 with its 1975 rebuild. It has the last version of the three military ENDT engines built for these 5-ton trucks. I admire the simple, efficient, beauty of these old Macks. Even on a bad day, I can walk past this critter and it always makes me smile. Hopefully, after six...
You need a trusted friend over the Virginia State Line. Give your friend a bill of sale for the trailer and deliver it to Virginia. Your friend can go to the local VA DMV and complete an altered trailer certificate form. Pay the $75 fee. Take it to the local VA State Police office and request...
The 11 x 20s on my A3 are Firestone 831s that I purchased new locally from a commercial shop. The unmounted wheels were sandblasted, the rim edges dressed and inspected for cracks and balance, double-primed, and given two coats of Marine Corps Old Forest Green semi-gloss.
I leave a bit more...
The large crate on the trailer is one of two boxes to round out a complete 32 long maintenance tent. Came with a complete set of interior lighting and heating. Sorry...long since gone.
I have built two types with the 20 ft military bed configuration. One is on a bolster trailer. It works well and runs on the standard bolster trailer tires. I use this for lighter loads...usually collecting baled hay from the field. See the photos including the photos of my M35A3 connected to...
All the interior panels, seat covers, door seals, floor mats, etc. were purchased online at lmctrucks.com out of Kansas. Good luck. Enjoy the work and the ride.
The interior stuff is all new dash panels, door panels, seat covers. The seats were in good shape only faded and cracked in places. I did not so much as remove the old seat covers. The cab was gutted and repainted after stripping the cab floor and recovering with padded aluminum foil sound...
These additional photos on the 2nd M1028 show what I did to the exterior to make it more functional for my needs. I replaced the original bed with a standard M101A2 trailer bed. I gained a far better tarping system for the bed that included stake sides and rear gates. The tires became Mikey...
I did not change anything on my M1028A2 other than the interior colors, LED tail lights, mud flaps with European required reflecting decals, and updated headlights all of which were to improve visibility in civilian enviroments.
This truck gets at least weekly use on the farm. The photo is from the end of a day of harvesting barley in May 2015. The tires were new that spring. Since 2009, the truck had run the 395/85R/20 singles with the tire inflation system that came with it. New replacement tires were about $1,500...
Flip them. You will not regret it. Here is my M35A3 that I have owned for the last twelve years. I replaced the originals with these Firestone 831, 11x20s. The rears line up under the cargo bed and steering improved significantly.
I tried to purchase a couple five years ago from the manufacturer. I agreed to the $625 each price as I had a specific and urgent need for them. Everything was go going well but at the last minute, someone in senior management flat out nixed it...no exceptions..go away. The type pictured is only...
