    First purchase 2008 refurbished - M1123A2

Looks pretty clean and I’m not seeing obvious leaks. The roof, new seats if you want, 24v license plate holders. Fluids are all easy to get.

    What did you say?

911 if you can I also would like to hear pointers on where to add sound proofing for the best effect. I aim to do that sometime but the headsets are holding me over until I get to it, especially since I have kids often riding along and I don’t want to harm their hearing as well.

    What did you say?

And you have overdrive which should take the noise down, right? I can only imagine what I’m at with my 3spd at 55 mph. I bought an intercom system with headsets with a 24 dB protection in the fall and use them now regularly. Previous to that was foam earplugs for long distance.

Lots of Questions about 4L80E Swaps

TOBASH will you be able to give a little review of your 765 at some point? Maybe what work they needed to do to get it in, maybe some pics or a video? I keep playing in my head between it and the positives of mechanical and easier bolt up vs the 4L80 and the required modifications and...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I built an easily removable drawer system to take in and out as needed. I leave in my rubber pads under it to deaden the sound then it slides in and uses concealed turnbuckles to attach to the tie downs already in the bed. I aimed for under 100lb to move it by myself or easily with a friend. I...

Ongoing Log Of My 1987 HMMWV

I'll also add if it makes you feel any better that just when I thought I was caught up on maintenance two front hub seals started leaking and the fuel pump started to drip diesel. I got all the parts ready and a guy on fleabay I thought I bought three individual hub rebuild kits for $60 total...

Ongoing Log Of My 1987 HMMWV

I did a little investigating on my heater core and lines and made a few updates that helped. Taking the dash off the line was not only completely falling apart but also had various insect nests from 30 years in Louisiana especially mud daubers. I got generic heater hose from amazon that was...

Motorboat sound, putt-putt over 15 mph

I’m with TOBASH. Sounds like my other truck did when the exhaust manifold developed a crack. The only thing that’s off is not hearing it when parked and reving the engine. Mine was louder under load but I could still hear and see it when parked.

Ongoing Log Of My 1987 HMMWV

Thanks. The farm is 70 miles away mostly highway. I made the run there and back last night and every time I’m running there with the engine screaming at 55 mph I think it’s time for the O/D! We also like trips to Wilmington or the outer banks and it’s a blast once there but 200-300 miles each...

Ongoing Log Of My 1987 HMMWV

TOBASH any ideas the hours the shop had into the 765r4 swap and extra items needed other than the shifter? If you don’t mind what did the suggest/explain that got you sold on the 765 vs a level 2 700? I’m thinking of this as well. I mainly aim to use mine for farm chores, woods trips and the...

Ongoing Log Of My 1987 HMMWV

How’s the install of the new transmission going? I’m looking forward to hearing your first impressions and ongoing review.

    Is an EGT gauge needed?

Thanks RWH, that was really helpful. I wondered as mine does what you said as I believe somewhere in its history at Fort Polk they turned it up a little and my Army friends have commented it has a bit more get up and go than normal. Mine does what you said, mash the throttle and you get a hint...

Hmmwv serial # / year of manufacture list

I have mine titled in NC (and I was the one who got it titled at the NC department of motor vehicles). I took a look at my title document and there is no connection between the VIN and title number. The VIN from the data plate was on the title document (only 6 digits on mine) but the title...

    Keyed ignition question

Diesel Dave I am definitely benefitting like you said from a quick starting truck. Mine got a newly rebuilt motor right before it went to auction and starts really quick even cold. Like you said it asks less out of the contacts then. I did think last night the switch finally bit me. I was...

    Keyed ignition question

Thanks CAMO. I definitely wasn't bothered by your feedback at all. More the other post. Thanks for the data, I love data driven decisions. I have used the switch I have a thousand times probably as the truck gets used a lot. I did toss the spec sheet when it came in but it was rated to 36...

    Keyed ignition question

Thanks also Coug and Milcommoguy for the keyed cutoff ideas. I started with one of the generic cutoffs but wasn't impressed by the quality or the fact the key wasn't really very secure, and the fuel delivery keyed switches were interesting but I'd like to kill everything as the last time the...

    Keyed ignition question

Nice jump to conclusions??? I need to check honestly where it was made but it was not a cheap keyed ignition, it was north of $100 and was spec'd well for the application I just wanted to ask from those who have seen the failures. I'd also add as a Michigan native who grew up fed by the auto...

    Keyed ignition question

I know it’s been mentioned many times about keyed ignitions being a bad idea. Can I ask an ignorant question of why an ignition switch if rated for 24V would still be a problem? Is it amp draw through it? Any idea what the amp draw is through the switch for an M998? I guess I could clamp on...
