    xm211 vs winter weather

Karl, I agree that weight in the rear would help, with the assumption that the ground is solid. I think I'd rather have no weight and keep duals so that I'm "treading as lightly as possible" for any off roading with soft footing. (I might attempt a pass through the field tomorrow to see how...

    xm211 vs winter weather

Frozen lake? Nice! That doesn't happen much around here; I did drive my old car on the pond back in 96/97. My driveway is gravel, the roads are paved, and we have some "hills" (nothing that a little running start won't get you over). My truck has 6 NDT and 4 tires like a 70 farm "2 ton"...

    xm211 vs winter weather

W Kentucky got some of this winter weather, and I'm wishing I had my xm211 ready for it. Our roads were warm when the sleet hit, which has left a sheet of ice under the 6-10" of snow, so if a tire breaks through the snow traction is nil. Now random drifts are sticking people. I know even...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

Duuane, good luck in your quest. I remain curious and open to the cheapest/easiest way to achieve a lower range.

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

I hope I'm mechanically inclined (as a pro car mechanic), but unless I've got a very good diagram or preferably a unit to look (touch/feel), I'm probably not gonna grasp the power flow path. The way I read the original post, the PTO output was sacrificed to get the other range. Was that your...

How would you split a brake system?

It's been over a year since I was into my brakes, so my memory has faded. I do know that because my system is cobbed together (different master and vacuum over hydraulic booster) and still a "single" system, I came to the conclusion that I'd add another booster and split the system by dividing...

1952 M135 Converted to standard shift.....

Rosco, those mods are right up my alley. I've got a 211 with a small block chevy and 4 speed from an old grain truck. I lack low enough gearing to move out of soft ground when loaded. I'd benefit from a 2 speed transfer. Thanks for the info. Duuane, if you do an exploritory, please...

How would you split a brake system?

More fuel for the fire: On our two cylinder per drum system, do both cylinders need to move in order to more the shoes enough for application?

Dump bed from m51 on m211

Someone put the hoist from a C50 (?) grain truck under my cargo bed.

How would you split a brake system?

I'm a car mechanic and owner of a 211 that's been modded. Cars started dual piston/reservoir master cylinders in the late 60's. They divided front from rear. Later model cars often divide diagonally so that you aren't left dragging rear wheels for hundreds of feet on wet pavement (you'll...

    Value of an xm211/ect

The Dodge is Cummins powered. That engine is 9/10ths of my interest in that truck. But I don't think it would be as useful for my "farm" as the 6x6 with dump bed.

    Value of an xm211/ect

Thanks for the replies. As usual, I disagree with the majority. lol The GMC is good enough to use on the farm as it is and costs nothing to have sitting around. The Dodge would not be as useful around the farm, and would eat licence and insurance for road use. Now, if you'd said "the GMC is...

    Value of an xm211/ect

I was offered a trade for my 53 xm211. That got me to thinking about it's value. Could you folks give me opinions or tell me what you gave for your trucks of similar vintage? I gave $1700 and had NO brakes and no carb. FWIW, my truck is modified with a small block chevy, manual 4 speed...

never ending M135 brake problems!! Need advice??

All I know about time to machine was it took a week to get them back. I told them the truck had been apart for a couple months and I was in no hurry. Surely it can't take long to machine them once you get them mounted in a mill.

never ending M135 brake problems!! Need advice??

A small note on wheel cylinder repair, my local machine shop brass sleeved 4 for me for $200. It wasn't their cup of tea, but I took them bare cylinders and one was already sleeved so they could see what needed to be done.

My xm211 got put to work

Yes, I have a vacuum booster, most likely from an early 70s GM "2 ton" (what we call 'em 'round here) grain truck. I ASSUME the trans came from a grain truck, and I have no idea if there are numbers on the shift knob or not. I'm familiar with a 68 chevy C50 grain truck, my trans "feels" the...

My xm211 got put to work

My combo has as weak link, it's not quite geared low enough for taking off when loaded, at least not anything other than hard and flat ground. I suppose the original trans had a high and low range. A few times the excavator loaded me in soft ground and I strained the clutch more than I wanted...
