    NP208 Rebuild

Great, thanks for the advice! I have a standard transmission jack so I’ll start with that but if needed I can get a tilting one. I also have a bearing puller set. I don’t mind buying a few tools if needed with some of the money I’d save if I took it in for a shop to do. Once I start the rebuild...

    NP208 Rebuild

Reaching out to determine difficulty to rebuild the np208. I saw there is a TM that covers this and it doesn’t seem too bad to do but wanted some opinions from anyone who has done it before, and whether any specialized tools were helpful. It looks like rock auto sells an overhaul kit and chain...

    CUCV M1008 Build

I was able to finish up the rear brakes and got all of that put back together. Changed out the rear brake hose and then bled the brake and power steering systems. I didn’t see any leaks on any of the stuff I changed so that’s always a good start! Now I moved on to the cab, I pulled the seat and...

Do you bench bleed the master cylinder?

I Just bled my new MC and brake system yesterday actually. Did it by manually pressure bleeding, went with half pumps of the peddle at first just to get some fluid in the system and eventually worked my way to normal. Didn’t bench bleed the MC and didn’t have any problems

    CUCV M1008 Build

Harder than I expected! Online I didn’t see them at Napa but I’ll call them tomorrow to find out for sure. They’re super cheap so I ordered them from rock auto just in case but hopefully I won’t have to wait that long for them

    CUCV M1008 Build

I was able to install the power steering pump and the rest of the steering components as well as shocks and front spring shackles. Old shackles could’ve been worse but rubber was also in rough shape. I measured the old tie rod/drag link from the center of the grease fittings and set up the new...

    M1008 receiver hitch

I do find it interesting that the LMC step bumper is rated for 8k lbs which is much more than the m1008 bumper. I have this on a C20 I own and it is definitely lighter and less ridged than the oem m1008 bumper. Unfortunately the rating is what it is and has to be followed but I feel like the oem...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Got a few more things done this weekend. Took advantage of the (slightly) warmer weather and cleaned up the front axle and sway bar and coated with por-15. Put the new bushings for the sway bar, new tie rods, and new steering stabilizer on as well. I pulled the old steering box out as well and...

    Power booster

Definitely agree with this. Mine was leaking as well so I purchased an entire remanufactured booster from rock auto. It’s pretty quick to swap out and then you can have more confidence in the entire unit

    M1008 Build

Good call on the o-rings, I completely forgot about those on mine and will have to get a set too. Are either of these the right ones? https://torqueking.com/amp/product/56016/qu56016-warn-dana-50-and-dana-60-hub-o-ring/...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Thanks! The center came out pretty easy, getting it back in was a pain but that was partly due to laying on the ground in a cold garage trying to hold it with one hand and tap it in with the other 😂 Probably would either get a spreader or remove the axle from the truck for better access if I had...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Also made progress on the power steering/brake booster system. Got my power steering pump back from rebuild so I got that installed. Also pulled out the master cylinder and brake booster. I have new units so I’ll get those installed here soon. One thing I noticed when trying to figure out what...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Just about finished up the front axle. Pulled the front diff out and put new seals since everything else was apart and cleaned out a little crap in there. Got new u joints and stub shafts and got those reassembled and installed into the spindles with new bearings. Only one minor screw up is I...

    CUCV Radiator Replacement

How many core radiator was originally standard for these trucks? I’d have to crack open mine to double check (however it may not be original) but I don’t recall it being 4 core. And from what I’ve seen for sale on rock auto (granted probably also not exact reproductions) they’re not 4 core either.

    CUCV M1008 Build

That would make sense then why the new bushings have only half a ridge. I didn’t take a picture of my knuckle but from what I recall it had the slot through the entire way. Prior to me building up the ridge a little it did move when fully installed with the spring compressed (however without the...

    Engine Oil Cooler Lines

Finally got around to installing the Dorman lines. Like was mentioned they are close but not exact to the original ones so it required a little bit of tweaking and a new bracket to hold to the manifold. Overall not a bad project but more of a pain than I was expecting!

    CUCV M1008 Build

Anyone else have issues with new kingpin bushings? On one of them the bushing is moving slightly within the steering knuckle instead of just on the kingpin. From comparing the new vs old bushing, the “ridge” which fits into a groove in the knuckle is much smaller on the new bushing, causing it...

    CUCV M1008 Build

I was able to get the kingpin assemblies pulled apart, cleaned up, replaced, and put back together on the steering knuckles. There was definitely some wear on the old pins so I’m glad they’re getting changed out. Overall wasn’t bad to do, just make sure you have a nice big extension for the 7/8...

    CUCV M1008 Build

Makes sense, thanks for the info! I will keep posting updates as I make progress. Yeah working in the cold isn't the best but I wanted to get a head start on everything.
