I haven't tried cleaning it up but i can feel the roughness on the shaft so I'll just replace it. And yep i am replacing the u-joints as well.
With regards to the inner seals, not to open a can of worms but would I have to adjust any shims/backlash from just removing it to access the seals...
Yeah i ended up ordering a new stub shaft for it. Like you said, might as well suck it up and replace it now instead of running into problems down the road (literally). As the saying goes buy once-cry once!
Next up is the axle rebuild. Starting on the driver side I pulled the hub off, removed the spindle, axle shaft, and got the upper kingpin cap off before running out of time tonight. I noticed some chop on the outer axle shaft from the spindle bearing. I have new spindle bearings but do you guys...
Perfect, thanks y’all. I’ll order the dorman ones as they have been proven to work. I would 100% trade for a little bit of tweaking instead of leaking oil anymore, and I have the front wheel well removed so I have plenty of access to get them set up right.
Anyone know if these LMC lines will fit the m1008s? My original thought was yes but LMC says 85-87 so now I’m not sure, but they look to be the right shape/style.
Mine are leaking so they’ll need to be replaced, I haven’t done a thorough internet search yet but rock auto only sells one of...
I was able to get a few things done recently between clearing out snow and the last few days of flintlock season. Changed out the door pins and lock striker, they were pretty bad and one of the pins wore all the way through the bushing. Removed and cleaned up the old FD stickers on the doors...
Found this posted somewhere either on here or another forum a while back. Looks like it’s from the 86 trucks which still applies. It should help explain a lot regarding thicknesses, heights, etc.
What would the RPM be going that fast with the TH400? I thought from what I read on here from other members and from a standard gear ratio calculator the motor would be close to redline at that speed. I’m not saying the TH400 isn’t a good transmission and I wouldn’t consider a 700R4 in stock...
I've owned my M1008 for a little over a month now so i figured it was about time I started documenting the project. I found the truck for sale from a few states away, overall in pretty good condition and rust free which was the main thing i was looking for. From stickers on the truck it was...
That makes sense. It looks like my 208 has the bolt holes on the side. I don’t think it be too hard to fab up a support rod if I end up going this route, better to be safe than sorry.
Great post! The transfer case to transmission support brace (part 12), is that just something the 700r4 was designed to have? The stock setup with the TH400 doesn’t have that and like you said the transmissions are essentially the same length so I’m curious why that’s needed now. Could you post...
I wouldn’t recommend tape, tried that on the transfer case plug on my 09 Silverado cause there was a slow seep through the threads and it end up splitting the case. Probably a compound would be better.
I've ordered the relay, once it arrives I'll get the heater hooked up. I probably won't use the IP wire for the trigger, either will use the existing fuel heater wire (as long as when I test it works the way I want) or run it off one of the fuse box terminals. Flexibility for accessories is...
The M1008 I recently purchased had the factory Stanadyne system bypassed/hacked up and replaced with a fairly sketchy (in my opinion, pic attached) filter so I’m upgrading to the Racor 230R1210. I decided to go with the option with built in heater and WIF sensor to keep stock functionality. My...
