    M923A2 Transmission Question

I lazer checked the drums/hubs for heat on the drive home back in May (300+ miles) and didn't find anything hot... Not saying it couldn't have been stuck alittle, Who knows what freezes up on these vehicles once they sit up for awhile. But the truck ran too good and shifted up and down well...

The truck felt like it was tied down.....i could tell it was straining to break free of "something". On the second attempt was when i heard and felt that "thump"....and off she went. SEMPER FI !! keith

    M923A2 Transmission Question

UPDATE on my allison issue.....I put my truck under load with a chain pulling up a small cluster of oaks (in reverse). I ended up breaking the harbor freight chain and decided to call it a day and park my truck. Truck sat for a few days when i went out and started and let it idle for a half...

    Oshkosh P-4 Fire Crashtruck Preservation

Served as a crew chief on the P4-A with the USMC in the 70's.....that 400hp cat engine was very dependable and the truck worked well on the hard surface but not too well off road. MCAS Yuma would work ANY piece of fire fighting equipment to it's limit. SEMPER FI keith

did USMC ever use the M35A2

The Marines with 2nd LAAMB used the 35A2's in the mid-late 70's at MCAS YUMA....saw them up close and personal on a few occasions moving in and out of the airfield. SEMPER FI !! keith

934A2 dies when shifted into forward gear, but not reverse.

I have checked the shut down cable/ reset.....i have removed the solenoid as it was NOT resetting which resulted in hard to no starting. Problem is only when the truck is moving FORWARD from a dead stop. Once rolling it shifts fine up and down the range. But depressing the pedal from a dead...

934A2 dies when shifted into forward gear, but not reverse.

I have checked the transfer case button....have engaged and disengaged the transfer case in the low/high range and my truck still is slow to move when pedal is depressed EXCEPT in reverse. It has instant throttle response in reverse. Seems to be a common problem. I'm working thru the process...

Glen...my M923A2 suffers from that as well.....still trying to work thru it...several threads here on M939 SERIES allison problems....I feel like they are all similar is the problem...stalls or VERYslow off the line til it gets rolling. HMMWV Overheat Q's and pictures

Actionpaintball brings up a good point....i remember reading a while back about the 6.5 running hotter due to the thinner cylinder walls, basicly a bored out 6.2 block. If your engine was refurbed that might be something to inquire about. As others have stated 180-210 is the op-range mine runs...

How is the reliability on the 8.3 Cummins?

I read on the Cummins site that they were suppost to run 150k miles between over hauls. That figure seemed alittle on the short side to me. But it would be ok for a military application. Even @ 150k i will never have to over haul mine.....if the service records and odometer readings are...

    M923A2 fuel solenoid

Ok...so the A2 was getting very tough to start where the days before it fired right up. Traced it to the fuel solenoid that was going (gone) bad and i pulled the bad part off to replace it. With the solenoid off it starts up perfect like before and i can stop it with the kill cable ( just...

    No Primary Fuel Filter

The cannister is COMPLETELY missing....and has been for some time as there no indication (paint marks) that it was ever there to start with. I'll post a pic of the inline this weekend. I'm trying to determine if this could be tied in with what seems to be a transmission issue and could...

    No Primary Fuel Filter

Roger that on a spare inline filter. I didnt know if the Air Force guys took them off or what kinda mod they were doing. My M923 has the primary but this A2 does not..so i was wondering if this was a common feature on AF trucks. Seem kinda foolish to me to remove it but i didnt design the...

    No Primary Fuel Filter

My most recent purchase of a M923A2 has no primary fuel filter. It has a little inline filter before the primer button and the final filter on the engine block. It's a Air Force truck from Tinker AFB. Just wondering if this was a common mod for the air dales ? SEMPER FI !! Keith

    M923A2 Transmission Question

Thank ya there Rifleman....i did get that level dropped down by draining alittle out....but the problem is still present. Part that doesn't make any sense to me is the TM says transmission will over heat if over filled....and this one ran normal (170-190) all the way home. Next conversation...

    M923A2 overspeed light issue

My A2 does the same thing...on the trip back from RedStone any time i kept it above 55 for a few minutes it would flash . With the bigger tires i would say that was a warning to heed. SEMPER FI!! keith

    M923A2 Transmission Question

Quick update on my transmission issue......it seems to be getting better. At this point all i have done to it , until my pan filter kit shows up, is to drive it around the back roads with alot of starting and stopping to really work the gears thru their range. It's not as quick off the line as...
