I bought a "Not operationally checked" MEP-803A what can I expect?

I bought one of the GP MEP-803A gensets. It was sold "Not operationally checked", so it is a bit of a crap shoot. I was wondering if anyone else is willing to share their experiences with buying one of these. I have been going through the MEP-803A threads, and I ordered filters oil belt etc. and...

    Trailer lights on MEP-803A trailer

Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread. I will be using the magnetic trailer lights when I go to pick it up. I always had that in the back of my mind as the likely solution, but I figured that eventually I would be modifying the trailer wiring so I could tow it with a civilian truck...

    Trailer lights on MEP-803A trailer

Is this the cover you were talking about? Also do you know if there are civi equivalent bulbs, from the parts manual I see W-L-00111/60, MS35478-1073, and MS15570-89 part numbers. When I search on these they appear to be available from walmart, amazon, ebay and others but seem pricey.

    Trailer lights on MEP-803A trailer

This is helpful, I have not actually seen it except from pictures that GP supplies. TM 9-6115-660-13&P indicates it is PU-798. So assuming that the TM is correct, this will make connecting it up a lot cleaner / easier than what I had in mind. I am still trying to confirm the trailer type. I have...

    Trailer lights on MEP-803A trailer

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I don't intend to have it on the road that much. The magnetic lights are still probably the best option, but I like to have more than one option.

    Trailer lights on MEP-803A trailer

Row, row, row your trailer gently down the street. ;) My wife was eager for us to get started on our Valentines evening and I did not get a chance to proof read my post before I posted. Thanks for the tip on going to the trailer forum. I will give that a try. My thought was I could just...

    Trailer lights on MEP-803A trailer

For better or worse I am now the owner of a trailer mounted MEP-803A gen set. It is close to where I live, so I intend to row it. I know it will be slow going, but like I said I don't have far to go. The pintel hitch is easy to deal with, and I can splice in a different electrical connector...

That is great, you have helped a lot. I found the kit using your part number it came right up. I had just given up, and was going to seal the air line from the venturi valve with a homemade gasket. I had searched for the part kit all over, with no luck. Closest I came was a company in turkey...

Thanks for the info, I knew you had an air dryer from old posts, but your last post on it was a long time ago so I assumed that you had installed it by now. Based on this statement "My limited understanding is in very cold conditions both may be needed" I guess I am less inclined to install...

Turning the valve off does not help, it still bubbles out through the reservoir. If I remove it entirely, that could solve the issue with the air leak. Depending on the expense of the alternatives that maybe the route I take, but it would likely require more work to get right, than it would take...

I finally got back after the SEE this weekend. I saw that the alcohol reservoir was empty, and refilled it. After running the SEE to get it warmed up I shut it down. I started hearing what sounded like the SEE was boiling over. I tracked it down to the alcohol reservoir. I suspect I have found...

    New FLU419 Owner, Electrical Woes

Hi Fuzzy. I finally got back to working on the SEE yesterday and have had partial success finally on getting the dash lights and gauges working. First let me say that my nephew turned me on to a tool called "Power Probe II" with it I was able to verify bulbs, and track down issues pretty...

Thanks peakbagger, I got the alcohol injector sorted out last year. That is a good reminder though for cold weather.

When you replaced your canister, where did you buy it, and how much (approximately) did you pay?

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

To date it has started every time I tried (at least since I took the starter apart, cleaned and re-lubed it). What prompted me to ask is when it's warm it starts on the first turn, but last time I tried it was probably around freezing ~ 30° F and it probably fired after 3 revolutions. Not...

Hi Everyone What is your collective opinion on the KBI ether system on the 419? With all the cold weather we have been having and my intent to move it up to it's new home at about 8000 feet, cold starting has gotten onto my priority list. There was no cylinder on the metering solenoid when I...

    New FLU419 Owner, Electrical Woes

Wow $40 for working 24 volt alternator seems like a steal. I paid 100 for one off E-Bay that was supposed to be new, but even though it was shrink wrapped in plastic was clearly not new (even though it was in really good shape). Since the alternator bench tested OK you are probably not far from...

    New FLU419 Owner, Electrical Woes

From my limited experience, you should pull the alternator and check it out. Like I said before TM 5-2420-224-34 gives instructions on how to test it with a multi meter. After you get that sorted out you can probably remove the hot wire to the starter button, which depending on how it was done...

    New FLU419 Owner, Electrical Woes

The reason I thought it might have been over charging is the needle on the gauge was just under the line between 28 and 32 which would be 30 volts. I checked the voltage between the positive terminal on the starter and the negative ground with an accurate digital voltmeter and got 27.4 volts.So...

    New FLU419 Owner, Electrical Woes

Hi FLU farm Can you verify what the proper behavior of the alternator gauge is? After I turn on the master disconnect, and turn the key switch to on the alternator gauge shows ~ 25 volts. When I start it and bring the rpms up to 8K it goes up above 28 volts which seems a bit high. While running...
