I bought a receiver hitch that pairs up with the pintle hitch.
I do not recognize the markings on the bolts and the internet was no help so I cannot determine what grade the bolts are. I need to buy longer bolts the pass through the combined hitches. What grade or material should I be aiming for?
My truck had been sitting in an open field with no cargo cover, for years. It occurred to me that the nuts holding the spare tire in the bed might be seized so I spent a morning working them free. The tire itself seems in good shape with no checking and still held air. I put a cargo cover on...
I did 11 years active duty on submarines and 9 years in the naval reserve. I will never knock the reserves or guard. I learned that active duty forces are often mentally boxed in and have difficulty thinking outside of established procedures. When I got to the reserves, I was continually...
UV is the biggest enemy. If the parts are boxed, they are not exposed to UV.
Heat is the next biggest enemy. If they were stored in a hot warehouse for years, some damage may occur, but by and large, I think buying these sealed kits is safe.
Gents,
I just went through this exercise. The short answer is: Yes, the less expensive unit will work just fine with your trucks. You just won't have the self-canceling ability. Most of us didn't have it anyway because the little pegs that trip the armature break off.
The non-canceling unit is...
A nuclear submarine is as close to the space program as you can get. All of our parts are inspected, packaged and quality controlled by the SUBSAFE system. We are absolutely not allowed to go to Ace Hardware for even the most mundane fasteners. That's why all of this is so strange to me.
My ROTC instructor told me that he carried a shotgun in Vietnam for that reason...he didn't tell me if he bought it with his own money. I guess he might have!
I guess. The concept is a little foreign to me because I served on nuclear submarines. You can't "hillbilly" a nuclear sub with stuff ordered from Amazon. We raided parts from decommissioned boats and once, even a museum but we never spent our own money on weapons or equipment.
When I...
I see these transmissions for sale all the time because people are always upgrading to the 4-speed. Normally I'd be skeptical of buying a used automatic transmission but the 3L80 is so robust that I think the risk is acceptable.
Why not ask around for a used 3L80 and see how it prices out...
Early on in the movie "Generation Kill" it was mentioned that the members of the unit spent their own personal funds to upgrade their vehicles with potentially life saving equipment, such as bits of armor, paint, and spare parts.
In my experience, it's not uncommon to raid DRMO or redlined...
I had to read this 3 times but I finally got what you're saying. I'm inserting the panels backwards when I put them down as bed filler panels. I'll flip them around and see what happens. I'm actually not certain that there are the necessary holes in the body for the DZUS fasteners. Maybe they'll...
Ok, next question:
What holds the seat backs down when they act as filler panels for the bed? I see that there is a small pin and cable that you can buy but that seems to retain the panels in the upright position as seat backs, not folded down.
I'm not seeing anywhere that holes in the panels...
I recently read somewhere here that the newer style parking brake parts were difficult to find? If this isn't true then I'll happily upgrade to the new setup.
Yeah, our truck is probably late 80's. It came with the old style mirror mounts and the 8-bolt wheels with bias-ply tires and 7k axles...
I've found the procedure in the TM.
How difficult is this job in real life? I'm talking about the baby disc brake on the rear drive shaft.
I've been under the truck a hundred times, staring up at this thing. It looks like it would be a PITA. Am I wrong?
I replaced the flasher fairly recently.
I swapped the turn signal switch from my 5-ton over the HMMWV and the driver's rear signal worked correctly so the t/s switch in the HMMWV is the culprit.
Edit: Why the heck are those NARTRON switches so friggin' expensive? Mine didn't even have the...
